Basin Street Fire Under Investigation
A police report identifies the fire as suspicious. Investigators reportedly found a trash bag full of clothes burning on the back patio of the home.
The fire that damaged two homes on West Basin Street on Friday is under investigation according to a report from the Norristown Police Department.
The Norristown Fire Department responded to a call of a fire at 20 West Basin Street shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday. According to the department's website, firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze that appeared to have started in the back of the property. Investigators reportedly found a trash bag filled with close on fire on the back patio of the home, causing smoke and fire damage to the home at 20 West Basin Street and smoke damage to the home at 18 West Basin Street.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured. Firefighters were able to safely remove a pet cat from the home.
"It's still under investigation," Norristown Fire Chief Thomas O'Donnell told The Times Herald. "We're still interviewing [potential] witnesses."
According to the Herald, the house fire is being investigated by the Norristown Fire Department, Norristown Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office.
