Prior to the ceremony, members of Troop 752, from Norristown; Troop 50, from Schwenksville; and Troop 100, from Philadelphia, spent the day cleaning Montgomery Cemetery.

Each scout received a specialized patch for their participation in the ceremony. Fifteen scouts have previously achieved the rank of Eagle Scout for their efforts during the flag retirement ceremony.
