Concerned Citizens Organize Walk in Response to Recent Violence in Norristown

The men and women of Norristown Clubs United are asking residents to join them in show of solidarity this Saturday.

In response to the recent escalation of violence in Norristown (including the Christmas night murder of 24-year-old Paul Brown, the Oct. 20 murder of Ryan Ladson-Singleton, and recent shootings), the men and women of Norristown Clubs United are planning a memorial walk on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.

Organizers are asking residents who are concerned about the recent violence to join them in this show of solidarity. The walk will begin at Marshall and Buttonwood streets in the West End.

"We are not asking you, the concerned citizen, to do much," community organizer Buck Jones wrote to Norristown Patch in an email. "Just walk with us as we re-visit the sites of senseless murders that have taken place in our beloved Norristown."

Jones added that the walk is not about assigning blame, but about gathering as a community to show a united front in the face of violence.

"The answer is not in pointing fingers at who is or who is not doing what," wrote Jones. "The answer is in stepping up as a community and saying 'Enough is enough,' and bringing light to the dark situations that have put a shadow over our town."

Organizers suggested bringing a stuffed animal, picture, candle or other memorabilia to commemorate those lost to violence.

Jones added a personal plea to residents to join him in this effort.

"Yes, we have walked before and as for me, I will walk again," wrote Jones. "What ever it takes to do my part. We are asking you to join us now so that we can show a united force. THe people of Norristown will come together and stand together... This is an invitation; as a matter of fact, this is plea for help. I beg you on behalf of myself, Norristown Clubs United, my children, my family, my friends, my town, my home –  come and walk with us so that together we can make a loud and clear statement: This is our home and you are not welcome here!"

Are you working on the cases of slum lords getting paid big bucks by the government for Section 8 housing but do not want to keep up their properties?

If the black commodity would police itself everything would be fine. But no, they hate the cops and won't help find the criminals. Protect the guilty and then turn around and say "Don't point fingers or assess blame." What percent of shooting and gun violence is perpetrated by non-blacks in Norristown?? How about maybe 1%. I know I'll get the usual blow back comments and I don't care. It is what it is! Recognize it, address it and deal with it. Don't throw the rest of us in the same pile just to fit the narrative you've already written. Yes, it's everybody's problem but there's only one group at fault.

If you want to address race, well let's talk about the human race. Regardless of what color the victims or suspects are they are all human beings. Have some compassion because not all blacks are criminals either. So what color they are should be irrelevant. We need to rid the streets of bad people period. Because the last time I checked bullets have no name, race, creed or color.

Stop it. We all know the deal. Don't deflect from the problem. Focus on the issue. In Norristown they have a race, If you want to talk about the mass shooting , yes they have a race too. They are all white, psycho losers. If you want to target 20 something white losers with MH issues for close scrutiny go for it. Do you think any of Norristown's shooters are NRA members?? Deal with reality. I'll make a bet with you "Concerned Citizen" that the next murder in Norritown will be by a black against more than likely someone black. I will take that bet 24/7/365. Skip the lottery.

jxjipper, we must pretend not to notice these things. In this area, one group is responsible for most rape, robbery, assault and murder, but we should focus on the isolated, rare CT event, so we can shrug our shoulders, and mutter, 'Golly, It happens everywhere.' Ignore reality, get drunk, and be a good citizen. Works for me.

We all know that more crimes are committed in areas where people are desperate..drugs, money, crime or is it crime, money, drugs..either way you can expect one to follow the other

I'll bet you most of the thugs have a nicer phones, TVs, game systems and more expensive car than I do. The difference is I paid for mine by getting job and paying taxes to lock these jerks up which makes me the idiot I guess.

Jennifer, it's predatory live-in boyfriends sucking off the single mother's welfare check and subsidized rent while they sell drugs and get drunk.

How about cleaning up some of that litter on the way? Norristown is so trashed with junk on the roadsides, alleys and yards. An eyesore attracts eyesores. If we cleaned this town and kept it up, we would be sending losers a message! I've tried asking for help before and noone responded. I still clean my street and alley for my own sanity. Oh, use a cheap pick up stick. You can get one at walmart.

We should all join the walk, and walk right out of town and never come back. Norristown has the distinguished honor of being the 68th most dangerous city in the whole friggin country! Something is very wrong!

A walk to the murder sites? God fearing people? start cooperating with the police as a community and maybe this town can get better. Walking will not end the criminal activity. Get a clue Norristown!

one solution to this violence is by some means re-establish human conscious in our homes, like placing value on a person life, respect of other property....ect ect.......

If you want to do some research, research this...Norristown and many other municipalities have placed overactive children in special schools or classes in the past ten or twenty years and given them medications to control their behavior. I would like to know how many of the young men who have committed these crimes have gone to PIP, FLECS or other behavioral management schools/facilities and received these meds which are often administered by non-medical personnel. I am willing to bet that the kids who have committed suicide, homicide, and other violent crimes have been given these meds at a young age and when they leave these facilities are not weaned off. When they are out of the schools they are dropped off the meds and their bodies and minds are just screwed up. If my theory is correct a class action suit is in order. This is no race related, these drugs have been administered to all races.

You are an idiot. You were an idiot on gonorristown.com and you will always be an idiot. The problem with this town isn't anyone elses fault but the people who live here. I know you all like to think that the root of your problems is the evil green monster from somewhere else... or even government... but you know what I say, "If ya plant corn, you get corn".

Over the last few days I've found many comments very disturbing, rude, incompassionate and racist. You are the people that I may have gone to school with or worked with. Your children may have attended the same schools as mine. Either sites like this attract self-loathing, racist cowards, or this country is in more trouble than we think. I'm going to go with the former. I'll still check in from time to time. Gotta keep the enemy close.

Eve, get a grip. Violence and crime respects no race. In predominantly white communities, where government benefits try to prop up a degraded culture, we see similar problems. Black communities are no more immune from this failure as any other race. The enemy is crime, and too many in Norristown do want it close.

No one wants crime close to them unless they are criminals. Why would you state that too many people in Norristown WANT crime when so many concerned citizens are publicly searching for solutions? Don't answer because you'd just make up something the others want to hear whether it is true or not, or makes sense or not. But this is a public forum and if I make a statement anyone has a right to their opinion. (Even though my post you replied to referred to rudeness, hate and racism, etc. in some comments on this site.) So I was right.

"So many concerned citizens" You are kidding right. Less than half the population votes. Probably 30% don't even speak English. 20% get the local paper and 0% of them are the criminals. This community is backwards, dysfunctional and hopelessly confused over the identity it has. The Council and Church elites tout theaters and useless projects with fancy lights and brickwork. Meanwhile most of the residents have a middle school level education and treat this community like a waiting room at a bus station.
