Gallery: 'Terror' at Eastern State Penitentiary

The production crew behind "Terror" was kind enough to invite Patch for a first look at the new attractions, as well as a peek behind the scenes, where we met the crew responsible for the hideous monstrosities that make men scream for their mommies.

Philadelphia's Eastern State Penitentiary has played host to "Terror Behind the Walls" for more than two decades, but this year the cast and crew is aiming to build on their world-renowned success with the addition of a new attraction called "Detritus" and a special VIP experience titled "ALONE."

Detritus expands the now six-part tour into never-before-seen areas of the 200-year-old prison, including the historic prison greenhouse, a newly opened cellblock and an outdoor labyrinth. In the event that the 45-minute journey through the haunted penitentiary isn't terrifying enough, guests can also elect for the VIP experience of navigating their way through the prison - ALONE!

The production crew behind "Terror" was kind enough to invite Patch for a first look at the new attractions, as well as a peek behind the scenes, where we met the crew responsible for the hideous monstrosities that make even the manliest of men scream for their mommies.

Check out our photo gallery for a glimpse into this year's "Terror Behind the Walls", and if you have photos or videos of your own, feel free to add them!

Is this attraction handicap accessible in whole or part? I use a scooter to get around. It would be fun to try this out. Thanks. :-)

Hi Dot!

Just to echo what Katie said below, we did see quite a few visitors who were either on scooters or in wheelchairs. Aside from the second-floor portion of the tour, I don't think you'd miss much.

Hi Dot! Thanks for stopping by. Great question. Here's what I got off the website:
http://www.easternstate.org/halloween/visit/faq
IS TBTW HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE?
"Many people in wheelchairs visit Terror Behind the Walls each year. That said, the penitentiary complex is not fully ADA compliant. The building is nearly 200 years old and is a National Historic Landmark. Sections of it may never be fully accessible.
There is a small section of the haunted house that goes up onto the second floor of a cellblock. This section of the route can easily be bypassed. The rest of the route is equipped with ADA compliant ramps and meets most ADA guidelines."
