Local Sports Legend Lafton Thompson Passed Away Monday, Jan. 28
Two days after a throng of friends and family gathered at his home to show their support, the local sports legend succumbed to his 2-and-a-half year battle with cancer.
Facebook and Twitter were filled on Monday with the somber news of the passing of Lafton Thompson, a local high school and college sports star, just two days after family and friends gathered at his home to show support for the ailing man.
Thompson, 34, lost his more than 2-year battle with cancer Monday afternoon, Jan. 28.
Buck Jones, who attended the gathering at Thompson's home on Saturday, Jan 26, posted photos from the visit on his Facebook page.
"His mom told me that he heard us cheer and clap and he gave her a 'thumbs up,' Jones posted on Facebook at the news of Thompson's death. "Maybe that was his way of telling us all something and saying good-bye, he was going to be O.K.! (At least that's what I'm going to believe.)"
According to The Times Herald, Thompson is survived by his two children – 8-year-old Kendal and 2-year-old Lance. Donations are reportedly being accepted by the Lafton Thompson Foundation (416 East Marshall Street, Norristown, PA 19401) or via PayPal at ltfoundation2011@gmail.com
"Lafton has fought a good fight and has finished the race," Thompson’s sister, Orinthea Beepot, told the Herald. "He is now in the arms of the angels far away from the misery and pain of cancer. The outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone has been a great comfort to us. We just want to thank you all for being such great friends and family to Lafton."
Funeral and viewing arrangements for Thompson have not yet been made available.

I am so glad that he got to hear the love and support that was shown for him that frigid Saturday afternoon. It was an awesome feeling sharing that love knowing he was able to receive it while he was still with us. I'm so glad I could be a part of that. R.I.P. Lafton

Lafton was always one to not be bothered by petty things in life. The ignorance of others he never paid any mind to.Lafton was a man who focused on excelling and helping out his friends who had good intentions and wanted the best for themselfs. They don't give someone the nickname LIONHEART unless you lead by example
