Municipality Advertises for New Police Chief

Norristown has posted it's "help wanted" ad for a new chief of police on several websites.

The Municipality of Norristown has begun advertising the opening for Chief of Police. The ad is reportedly being circulated with several law enforcement trade groups and sites through SafeCity Solutions, the Reading-based search firm contracted to help with the filling the position. It also appears on several well-known job hunting sites like monster.com and indeed.com and it's even listed on the Feminist Majority Foundation's website in its feminist job listings.

Some of the qualifications listed include:

  • At least 15 years as a certified police officer,
  • A minimum of 7 years of recent administrative and supervisory experience as a lieutenant or higher level within a similar or larger-sized department serving an urban community.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • A record of continuing career education and development that includes graduation from the FBI National Academy or similar executive-level law enforcement training are preferred.

The deadline for resumes is March 11.

How about whoever takes the position places traffic control devices on main street in front of Crawford park and Norristown tattoo considering a car went thru the business 2 days ago, another accident today and theirs parking allowed on the street not during rush hour??? Obviously the intersection has to be a cause of a vehicular homicide for norristown cops or the town council to actually take action but hey its been years ful of accidents so obviously they dont care.

If you read the postings on line, it is not absolutely clear that a Bachelor's degree is required for this position. This should be absolutely mandatory. As Dave Forrest said in a Times Herald article, we would never hire someone without a Bachelor's degree for this position. I won't believe that to be true until they make a selection. We have lots of issues that need to be addressed and need a qualified person for this position. Also, I would love a salary of about $130,000 per year with a high school education and I am sure others feel the same way.
