Mural Project Presentation Tonight at Municipal Hall

State Sen. Daylin Leach, folks from the Philadelphia Mural Arts Project, Norristown Municipal Council, local arts groups and concerned citizens will all be on hand to be part of the process.

State Sen. Daylin Leach and representatives from the Philadelphia Mural Arts Project are giving a presentation on a proposed public mural tonight at 7 p.m. at Norristown Municipal Hall.

The mural is planned for the corner of DeKalb and Lafayette streets to act as a welcome gateway to Norristown for folks coming from the DeKalb Street Bridge. The theme for the mural will be "Celebrating 200 Years of Arts, Culture and Commerce – Past, Present and Future."

Leach, the Mural Arts Project, Norristown Municipal Council and local arts groups are calling for Norristown residents and art lovers to attend the presentation to offer support and learn more about the project. Word is the selection committee has received several proposals, but an artist and design have yet to be selected. Public input into this project could still make a difference.

"One of the most important elements in making a successful mural project is public support," said Councilman William Caldwell in an email. "I am asking you all to come out to show support for this important public art project. We are looking to fill municipal hall with local artists, art lovers and all those who support the idea of bringing the arts alive in Norristown."
