Norristown School District Adds Two Days to Schedule

The two days, originally scheduled as days off for the students, are makeup days for time lost due to Hurricane Sandy.

According to The Times Herald, the Norristown Area School Board added two days to the district's calendar at Monday night's meeting to make up for time lost during Hurricane Sandy.

Friday, March 22, and Monday, April 1, originally scheduled as days off are now back on the student calendar, though March 22 will be a half-day to allow for report card conferences.

According to the Herald, the state Department of Education requires students to lattend a minimum of 180 days in a school year.

I agree Derrick. I don't understand why those days need to be made up? What happens if schools are closed due to snow? Do the students need to make those up as well?

they usually add the make up days at the end of the year. But I do agree that they should have sent something home for our opinions.

The school's job is to be sure that students have the state required number of days in session; they certainly don't need to clear it with the parents.
When I was in school, due to snow we would lose holidays or have days added at the end of the year. What rock do you live under that this is new to you????

I agree with adding onto spring break. But not at the end of the year. Cause all the kids do anymore is run the street , sitting playing video games or sleeping. And don't we have snow days anyway. No way we used 2 already?

Uh... I went to public school.... i remember one winter where we lost 3 out of 5 days of spring break.... and added 3 days to the end of the year due to snow days. Its state mandate. You need to have 180 days of school. Honestly with all the stuff going on in norristown doesn't it make sense to keep the kids in school as long as possible?
