As conveniently located near plenty of public transportation as Norristown is, many of us still rely pretty heavily on our cars. And when you rely on your car, you really rely on your car's mechanic.
So is there a top-notch auto repair shop in Norristown that just outshines the rest? I know my grandmother took her car to Al's Auto Sales & Service on Brown Street and swore by their work. I take my car to Art & Mark's Auto on West Wood. One Norristown Patch reader gave Spencer's Auto Inc a five star rating and another gave the same to Catania Auto Body. Is there an A-1 grease jockey you want to nominate? Let us know and we'll add it to the poll.
Vote for your favorite car guy in the comments below by 9 a.m. Friday. We'll present the winner with a certificate congratulating them for their mechanical genius.
If you want to vote for a spot in a neighboring Patch, feel free to visit Perkiomen Valley Patch, Lower Gwynedd-Ambler-Whitpain Patch, Plymouth-Whitemarsh Patch or Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch.
Editorial Note: Our original method of voting – our poll – was hacked by some unsportsman like reader or readers, so to determine the winner we've switched to comment voting. Just tell us in the comments why you think your mechanic should win and we'll pick the one with the most positive comments.

Why did you choose only these four places? I've been going to Lou's for years. It's owned and operated by Lou Raieta. He and is staff are wonderful and when my husband got hurt one year they went out of their way for me. He's located at 225 West Airy Street right in downtown Norristown.

Don't forget Schiele's on East Main Street. He's been repairing cars in Norristonw for over 40 years.

Please consider adding Stan's Auto Repair. He operated for years in East Norriton but had to move when the hospital construction started and opened up shop in Jeffersonville. He is always honest, does prompt follow up, and does not "invent" repairs that need to be done. He has a large clientele because of this....Thanks!

We recently had to have and inspection with insanely detailed paperwork done for a reconstructed title and Catania Auto Body on Spruce St. (not far from the zoo) was AWESOME. Good work done, priced fair, and we had no trouble with the paperwork being approved by the DMV -- for such a complicated thing we had to have done they made it seem simple. Highly recommend.

I used for over ten years and I know alot of people still do was OJP Auto that used to be on Airy and Moore St. He has moved to a location in the East Main Street areanow but after I married I started using Don when he was at the Getty on Marshell and Markley but they relocated to J & J Shell on East Ridge Pike next to Concille Deaership. He's been a great machnic to us that I convinced my brothers to use him and they have been very satisified. Don been in business for over 40 years and now His sons are partners with him.

For what it's worth this poll is highly inaccurate and trivial to cheat. You can create as many votes as you want for whichever option you want.

It seems pretty obvious that someone is gaming the system, which is a shame because I'm told Schiele's is a great shop and I'd hate to have to disqualify them for someone's poor sportsmanship. I'll offer this concession: if the 138 people who've voted for Schiele's will each make an individual comment in support of Schiele's in our comment section, I'll count those comments as votes. I hope that helps level the playing field. And folks, let's try to be sportsman like about this. Thanks.

Unfortunately making a cheat proof polling system online is a very hard problem to solve. I'm a Web Developer by trade, and it's essentially a problem with no perfect solution and requires you to pick the level of trade off you want between making more hoops for people to jump through in order to be allowed to vote, and allowing the ability to cheat.

George Schiele is a tremendous person to work with, and I would recommend him and his shop to anyone. He has serviced several cars for me over the past 15 years and has always done top-notch work. I found out about this poll and came to offer my support because friends have publicized it on Facebook. It appears that you've attracted attention with this poll, and as unscientific as the poll is, your only grounds for claiming that someone is cheating is that fact that you've received an enthusiastic response.

I suggested that George be included in the poll because he does tremendous work and has now serviced 4 generations of my families' cars. He's most likely unaware that he's even a part of the poll and, even if he was, he wouldn't care enough to rally the troops to his flag.
I looked back at some of your earlier polls and noticed that, in a few cases, there were some establishments that totally stomped the competition. We're these bars, coffee shops, restaruants, etc. disqualified because they had overwhelming support? Regardless of how that support was garnered (hundreds of satisfied customers, or a few loyal button clickers) the numbers are the numbers. You're conducting an unscientific poll that allows for multiple votes and should be prepared for something like this.

I vote for Schiele's. They are a great team and are great mechanics.
if youy going to change the rules, maybe every vote needs a comment, not just Schiele's.
They do have a loyal following.

Well, I see someone has been wreaking havoc with our poll. That's a shame, but the easy fix is to switch to pure comment-driven voting. If you want your mechanic to be honored just add a comment saying why you love him. Most positive comments win.
So far Schiele's is in the lead.

I've known George since high school in the 60's. He's a great mechanic. Other mechanics call him when they are stuck. He didn't even know about this poll and he couldn't care less. His too busy fixing your cars to have time to stuff a ballot box.
He was John Milner before American Graffiti was a gleam in George Lucas' eye.

I certainly never thought Schiele's Auto was involved in the poll hacking. It's usually one or two overzealous fans who are a bit too passionate about the competition. I will say that it's nice to actually read such great things about the business owners in Norristown. I think I'll be using the comment method in future polls to avoid a repeat of the trouble we saw here. Thanks to everyone who's participated so far. You still have two more days to vote.

Although I moved from Norristown 10 years ago, I still drive a half hour to bring our family's cars to Schiele's! George and his son are wonderful people - honest, hard working and trustworthy. My parents have used him for over 30 years and I wouldn't trust anyone else.
As far as the whole poll hacking thing here... why would you not attach a vote to an email address? With most polls on the internet people have to give an email address, or they IP address is traced. It is your responsibility to set up a poll that is authentic and trustworthy. If you are assuming that people are just clicking buttons, then you need to set up a better polling system! (although I really think Schiele's is truly that much in the lead here!)

George Schiele is a great mechanic and you don't have to worry about him ripping you off. He has been doing all the work for me and all my family members for years. My Mom is 84 years old and she won't go to anyone but George. My Husband was away and I broke down. My husband called him from Calif. and George was there for me in 15 minutes. I don't think anyone has to fix a poll to say Schiele is a GREAT Mechanic!!!!!!! SANDY (PEG) MYERS

And one for Pop.
