PECO: 42,000 without power in Montgomery County

Collegeville, Lansdale areas among worst affected

PECO reports that about 42,000 people are without power in Montgomery County this afternoon as wet, heavy snow from a bizarre mid-autumn "winter" storm has downed power lines and tree branches around the region.

PECO spokesperson Cathy Engel Menendez said that the utility has extra staff on hand to cope with the outages and expects to have its crews working "through the night and into tomorrow" to restore service.

That said, the storm is expected to continue dumping snow on the area for several more hours.

"It will get worse before it gets better," Engel Menendez said.

According to Engel Menendez, the worst-hit areas in the county were the Collegeville-Phoenixville corridor along Route 29, which had about 17,000 customers without power, and the Lansdale and North Wales area, which had about 16,000 customers without power as of 4:00pm Saturday.

Is the power out in your neighborhood? Tell us in the comments.

It's important to note that Lansdale Borough has its own electric company and supplies its residents with electric. Any outages within the boundaries of Lansdale Borough do not fall on PECO.
