Police Briefs

Assault

  • According to the , a victim reported that she went to the residence of her child’s father, Bobby Hampton, of E. Elm St., on Wednesday, July 6 at 12:20 p.m. to pick up diapers when Hampton hit her in the face. The victim was transported to for swelling and bruising to her face and lip.
  • Police reported Twanda Eakins was arrested on Thursday, July 7, at 12:16 a.m. after admitting to throwing the first punch in a physical altercation.

Theft

  • According to police, various cell carriers in the area reported the unlawful removal of four copper grounding bus bars from the cell tower near Stanbridge and Sterigere streets. Police reported a hole was cut in the chain link fence enclosure.

DUI

  • Police said Francis Williams, III, of 713 Standbridge St., was arrested on Wednesday, July 6 at 4:34 p.m. after police found him operating a vehicle while suspected drunk. Williams exhibited slurred speech and unsteady balance and had dilated pupils. Police said officers witnessed him strike and knock over a temporary stop sign in his vehicle. Williams gave consent for a blood test and was transported to .
  • According to police, on Sunday, July 3 at 4:30 a.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Arch St. for a report of an accident and found Tonya Robinson, of 2107 Rahway Ave., who said she had been drinking and had gotten into an accident while driving a blue Chevrolet Cavalier. Police said Robinson had driven the car onto the sidewalk at Fisk Alley and then collided with a parked vehicle. Police reported Robinson failed two of three sobriety tests in the field and consented to having a blood test.

Possession

  • According to police, on Sunday, July 3 at 10:45 p.m., Jermar Cooper was pulled over for having his car radio too loud and was found to be driving without a valid driver’s license. Police said officers also found a sandwich baggie the trunk, that contained a scale and smelled of marijuana.
  • According to police, at approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, suspicious behavior was reported at 1028 Dekalb St., a house that has been under police investigation for suspected drug transactions. Police said, upon arrival, Ramone Berry, of 1228 Marshall St., was found with a known dealer known as Augustin Rivera. As the officer approached, Berry began to flee the scene. Police reported that as Berry was being chased, he threw from a bag containing two small blue bags and a single orange bag and five small pieces of plastic. Police said all the bags contained a substance suspected to be cocaine and that a sample of the substance tested positively for cocaine in the field. Police reported finding an additional bag containing smaller bags of suspected cocaine when Berry’s shoes were removed at the police station. Police said Berry was also in possession of $1,383 cash at the time of his arrest.
  • Police reported that on Friday, July 1, at 10:30 p.m., Jermaine Pierce, who was arrested on an outstanding warrant, was found to have a clear bag of marijuana on his person. Police said Pierce also had on him a set of car keys, which opened a Dodge Charger containing five more clear bags of marijuana.

DUI, Possession

  • Police reported that on Sunday, July 3 at 3:52 a.m., Gisel Mendoza was involved in an accident with a parked vehicle while driving a gray Nissan Altima in the 900 block of Swede St. According to police, Mendoza exited the car smelling of alcohol and staggered around, unable to walk. Police reported Mendoza failed a field sobriety test of walking in a straight line, but refused a blood test. Police reported officers found two tin foil pipes, a small amount of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and a wooden pipe in the vehicle Mendoza had been driving. Poloice also reported that Mendoza has no valid driver’s license.

DUI, Resisting Arrest

  • According to police, on Thursday, June 30, at 10:30 p.m., an officer saw Melvin Darden operating a blue Honda motorcycle at a very high rate of speed on Astor St. When the officer activated his lights and siren, Darden sped up to evade pursuit, police said. Police reported Darden did not obey a posted stop sign at Astor and Oak streets and made a U-turn in the middle of an intersection and did not stop the vehicle until he arrived at 718 Astor St. Police said Darden then attempted to run into the dark house and turned to struggle with the pursuing police officer at the entrance. Police reported Darden smelled strongly of alcohol, had a difficult time maintaining balance, spoke with slurred speech and was glassy-eyed. Police said Darden refused a chemical blood test.

Assault, Resisting Arrest

  • Police said on Monday, July 4, at 7:15 p.m. at 1200 Harding Blvd. at the Columbus Memorial at Elmwood Park, Antonio Adams, of Philadelphia, was involved in a fight. When police attempted to stop the fight, he took a swing at an officer. Though he missed, he then ran from law enforcement officials and resisted arrest, police reported. According to police, Adams was found to have a 10-inch hunting knife strapped to his calf at the time of his arrest.

Returned Missing Person

  • Police said Brian Landis, previously reported missing, was found on July 7 at 11 a.m.
