Police Briefs

The following information was supplied by the Norristown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Robbery

  • According to reports from the , a victim reported that he was robbed as he was getting out of his car parked on the 800 block of Cherry Street Tuesday, Jan. 3. The victim states he was approached by two black males who demanded money from him. One was pointing an object the victim believed to be a firearm. He stated he refused to cooperate with the robbers and was then reportedly struck in the head with the weapon. The other suspect reportedly began going through his jacket pockets and stole his cell phone. The victim states he fell to the ground and both males proceeded to punch him in the face and head. The victim states he then got up and was able to run away. Police state they observed several small lacerations on the victim’s forehead but that he refused emergency medical services at the scene. The victim was given a victim’s rights pamphlet and application for the compensation program.

Possession

  • Robert H. Alexander, of the 800 block of Grosstown Road in Stowe, Pa., was arrested for possession with the intent to distribute, paraphernalia, possession and other charges Monday, Jan. 2. Police state they were on patrol on the 300 block of West Main Street when they reportedly observed two males in a verbal, slightly physical altercation. As they approached the individuals, they reportedly went inside . Alexander reportedly exited the establishment shortly after and was visibly intoxicated. Police claim he was leaning against walls, stumbling and had an extremely obvious unsteady gate. According to the report, he also had slurred speech, decreased motor function and slow response to questioning. Police said this was indicative of Alexander being under the influence of drugs and alcohol. He was taken into custody for public drunkenness. Police state after being arrested they found the following items attached to a keychain in Alexander’s possession: a purple canister containing two round green pills, 16 round grey pills, and eight round white pills all suspected to be morphine; and two silver canisters, one which was smaller than the other one. The smaller container contained one white round pill, three green round pills and 29 ½ oval blue pills suspected to be Alprazolam. The larger silver container contained 17 round yellow pills and two white round pills — also suspected to be morphine. Police claim this was demonstrative of intent to deliver and distribute a controlled substance. Alexander reportedly complained of a medical condition and was transported to .

DUI

  • Anthony N. Monteleone, of the 500 block of East Main Street, was arrested for driving while under the influence, careless driving, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia Tuesday, Jan. 24. Police were contacted regarding a hit-and-run accident. The striking vehicle was described as a grey-colored Mazda and last scene heading westbound on Airy Street from Swede Street. Police arrived on the scene and reportedly found Monteleone sitting in the vehicle with a lit cigarette and nodding off to sleep. The vehicle was still running and the gear was still in the drive position. When police approached Monteleone, he reportedly was startled awake. Police state Monteleone appeared confused and allegedly had heavily slurred speech. Monteleone reportedly told police he took medication that makes him drowsy and that he had pulled over to exchange information with the driver of the struck vehicle. Monteleone was ordered to exit the vehicle, at which point police alleged he struggled to put the vehicle in park and removing keys from ignition. Monteleone was then taken into custody under suspicion of driving while under the influence. During a search, police reportedly discovered several small blue wax paper packets in his left jacket pocket — three of the packets allegedly were open and empty and two contained a white-colored substance suspected by law enforcement to be heroin. A large spoon and three capped needles were also reportedly found. Monteleone agreed to have his blood drawn and was transported to Montgomery Hospital. The vehicle was towed and Monteleone was taken to the police station to be processed.
  • Phong H. Nguyen, of the 200 block of Stanbridge Street, was arrested for driving while under the influence Monday, Jan .23. Police state they were conducting an investigation, which occurred on the 300 block of Buttonwood Street. Upon arrival, they reportedly observed a black Lexus sedan in the middle of the street with front end damage. Reportedly standing next to the Lexus was Nguyen, who was allegedly driving the vehicle. Police state they immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Nguyen and that he was slurring his words. Nguyen allegedly had difficulty standing on his own and reportedly admitted to drinking. Nguyen was taken into custody and agreed to a blood test to determine his alleged level of intoxication. He was transported to Montgomery Hospital where blood was drawn. He was transported to the police station and held for arraignment.

Simple Assault

  • Marquis Johnson, of the 100 block of Garfield Avenue, was charged with simple assault, criminal trespass, burglary, criminal mischief and interference with custody of child Tuesday, Jan. 24. Police were dispatched for a report of a disturbance on the 200 block of Noble Street. Upon police arrival, they were able to contact Johnson. He was taken into custody for assault and related charges.
  • Dores Ashburn, of the 500 block of West Lafayette Street, was arrested for simple assault, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and several active fine and cost warrants Tuesday, Jan. 3. Police responded to a report of a disturbance at Ashburn’s residence. The victim stated that Ashburn allegedly ran after him with a chair and smashed it over his back. She then allegedly chased him with a knife. Police also discovered she had active warrants. She was taken into custody and held for arraignment.

Public Drunkenness

  • Silvestre Gonzalez, of the 400 block of East Main Street, was arrested for public drunkenness Wednesday, Jan. 25. Police responded to the rear of the 600 block of Cherry Street for a report of a male sleeping in the caller’s silver Chrysler Seabring. Upon arrival, police reportedly found Gonzalez highly intoxicated passed out in the driver seat. He was placed under arrest for public drunkenness and held until sober.
  • Ryan Super, of the 800 block of West Main Street, was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct Monday, Jan. 23. Police were dispatched to Super’s residence for a report of a disturbance. Upon police arrival, police state they observed Super allegedly stumbling on the porch and walk onto a public sidewalk. According to the report, Super had glassy, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. Police claim his attitude was uncontrollable and he could not stop yelling obscenities. He was reportedly advised several times to stop yelling, which he reportedly refused to do. He was placed into custody and transported to the police station.
  • Michael P. Clemens, who has no known address, was arrested for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct Monday, Jan. 2. Police reportedly observed Clemens ride his bicycle across Main Street through moving traffic. He was stopped, got off his bike and allegedly urinated on the side of Markley Street. Police said when they stopped him they discovered he had several active fine and cost warrants. Police claim he was under the influence of marijuana as well as in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was taken to the police station and held.
  • Amanda K. Byrne, of the 600 block of Astor Street, was arrested for public drunkenness Tuesday, Jan. 3. Police responded to the area of Astor and Oak streets for a report of a female lying on the sidewalk. Upon police arrival, Byrne reportedly was attempting to get up and walk but unable to do so. Police state she had an odor of PCP on her and was unable to complete sentences or walk without help. She allegedly was under the influence and taken into custody. Police state she also had an active criminal warrant out for her arrest. She was held until sober and for arraignment.
  • Mandi Crawford, of the 700 block of Arch Street, was arrested for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct Tuesday, Jan. 3. Police responded to the 200 block of East Oak Street for a report of a disturbance. Once on the scene, they reportedly observed Crawford to be intoxicated, unsteady on her feet anf yelling profanity. Police claim she created a physically offensive scene to family and neighbors. She was taken into custody and taken to the police station. While being transported, she allegedly banged her head on the cage of the car, which reportedly caused a laceration to her forehead. She was then transported to Montgomery Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
  • Alvin Miller, of the 500 block of Church Street, was arrested for public drunkenness Tuesday, Jan. 3. Police conducted a pedestrian stop of Miller, who reportedly was visibly intoxicated while walking on the 100 block of West Main Street. He allegedly was staggering and had red, glassy eyes and slurred speech. It was also discovered that he had numerous active fine and cost warrants for more than $1,900. He was taken to the police station and held until sober and for arraignment.

Fraud

  • A victim went to the police station to report an attempted fraud Friday, Jan. 20. The victim stated he posted headlights for sale on Craigslist. An individual asking him to cash a check for $2,000 contacted him. He was told he could keep $100 and give the rest to the individual via Western Union. He received the check from FedEx but did not cash it.
  • A resident of the 400 block of Hamilton Street reported to police that an unknown person reportedly used his bankcard to get a cash advance for $135.10 Sunday, Jan. 22. The victim claims he was also charged a $6.75 finance charge. A victim’s claim form was provided.

Criminal Mischief

  • Police responded to the 1000 block of DeKalb Street for a report of shots fired Tuesday, Jan. 24. The reporting person pointed out to police numerous shell casings on the front porch of a residence at the above location. In addition, the person also showed police two vehicles that sustained damage from being shot. Police state they also observed what appeared to be an empty vial and bags that they report are commonly used to transport illegal substances.
  • A resident contacted police Monday, Jan. 23, to report damage to a back door at a property located on the 1800 block of North Hills Drive. The reporting person stated that an unknown person broke off the handle of his back door and the damage is estimated to be $100. The handle contains the digital code that allows occupants to enter the building. The victim stated that this has happened several times in the last few weeks. The victim did not want a victim’s rights form.

Theft

  • Police met with a victim at the police station for a report of theft Sunday, Jan. 22. The victim reports he left his house on the 700 block of Chain Street after an altercation with an acquaintance. He states the accuesd’s dog attacked him and bit him. The victim states while he was at the hospital getting treated for the bite, the accused was at the house alone. When the victim returned, he found a lock box in his bedroom forced open and $320 missing. The victim claims no one else had access to the house besides the accused.
  • A victim went to the police station Friday, Jan 20 to report the theft of her birth certificate. She told police she went to the Montgomery County Housing Authority and placed her birth certificate through the secure doors of the building because the office was closed at that time. The victim states she saw a white female inside the building take her birth certificate and leave. She states she confronted the woman who reportedly denied taking the documentation and the fled north on Cherry Street from Main Street. The victim was issued a victim’s rights form.

Animal Reports

  • Rosemary Botto, of the 500 block of Noble Street, was cited by dog control by dog owner or caretaker Tuesday, Jan. 24. Botto reportedly had three pitbulls running loose on the 500 block of Noble Street, Police state they observed three dogs running loose unaccompanied by a caretaker. Police were advised by neighbors that the animals belong to the resident at a residence on the 500 block of Noble Street. Police then attempted to contact resident and reportedly observed the front door wide open. Police did yell into the home but were unable to make contact with anyone. Police were able to contact Botto who said she would be home shortly. When Botto arrived, she was told to secure her animals. She was advised she would be receiving a citation for her dogs allegedly running loose.
  • Police were dispatched to the vicinity of West Main and Hamilton streets for a report of a dog running loose Monday, Jan. 23. The dog was reportedly located inside the and did not have a collar, leash or tags. The animal was secured and transported to Montgomery County SPCA.

Warrants

  • Levi E. Freeland, of the 00 block of Coates Street in Bridgeport, was arrested for an active criminal warrant Tuesday, Jan. 3. A Royersford police officer reportedly arrested Levi, who was transported to the police station and held for arraignment.
  • Marcus Tolson, of the 500 block of Walnut Street, was arrested for an active fine and cost warrant Tuesday, Jan. 24. Tolson was reportedly in a disabled vehicle at Airy and DeKalb streets. A warrant check was done and Tolson was found to have an active fine and cost warrant $228. He was arrested and taken to the station and held for arraignment.
  • Virginia Wagner, of the 00 block of West Basin Street, was arrested for an active fine and cost warrant Tuesday, Jan. 3. Police state they observed Wagner walking in the area of Blackberry Alley and Astor Street. They state she had an active fine and cost warrant for $250. She was taken into custody, transported to the police station and held for arraignment.
