Police Briefs

The following information was supplied by the Norristown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

Burglary

  • According to reports from the Norristown Police Department, officers responded to a report of a burglary on the 700 block of Haws Avenue Wednesday, Feb. 1. The victim told police that she woke up and found an unknown male in her bedroom. She said she screamed, scratched him and fled from the home through the rear door. The victim states she does not know the suspect and did not get a good look at his face. She reported her children’s bedrooms were ransacked, but nothing was noticeably missing at the time of the report. The victim was issued a victim’s rights form.

Firearm Violation

  • Reggie K. Jackson, of the 400 block of Tremont Avenue, was arrested for persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer a firearm; firearms not to be carried without license; public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct Tuesday, Jan. 31. Police responded to the area of the 100 block of West Airy Street for a report of shots fired and an armed subject. The reporting person said he heard people on Palm Alley saying put the gun away. When they arrived on the scene, police state Jackson attempted to flee the scene and was acting in an intoxicated manner. Police say he was secured for his safety and paramedics were called to the scene. He was transported to Montgomery Hospital for treatment. Police state that they found an unloaded silver handgun in the area where Jackson fell. A criminal history of Jackson was conducted, which showed Jackson pleaded guilty Oct. 22, 2002, to a felony charge. The felony conviction makes him a person not to possess a firearm. Police state he also does not have a permit to carry a firearm. Hospital staff was advised to contact police when Jackson was cleared from treatment. During the course of the investigation into this matter, police responded to Montgomery Hospital for a report of a possible gunshot victim, which was reported to have occurred near the 500 block of Barbadoes Street. The victim was not shot but reported hearing multiple gunshots while he was running from the area. The victim fell and hit his head, requiring treatment. Read more about this incident here.

Public Drunkenness

  • Elizabeth N. Watson, of the 700 block of Cherry Street, was arrested for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct Wednesday, Feb. 1. Police reportedly observed Watson on the sidewalk of the 500 block of Cherry Street allegedly loudly arguing with a male, which reportedly drew a crowd of individuals to the area. Upon speaking with Watson, police report it was apparent to them that she was under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. They state she allegedly had slurred speech, odor of alcohol on her, bloodshot eyes and unsteady on her feet. She was taken into custody and transported to the police station. A search reportedly revealed a metal push rod police state is commonly used for smoking illegal drugs. She also allegedly was in possession of two small clear plastic bags containing a white substance police believed to be crack-cocaine.

Defiant Trespass

  • Tyrone Gulledge, of the 5800 block of Penn Street in Philadelphia, was charged with defiant trespass Wednesday, Feb. 1. According to the report, police state they observed Gulledge and another individual walking along a fence on the 700 block of East Airy Street. The fence is to the backyards of houses on the 700 block of Sandy Street. Gulledge reportedly jumped the fence and allegedly attempted to grab a metal pole that was stuck in the ground in one of the yards. Gulledge also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Philadelphia. Police were advised not to arrest for the warrant. In addition, the vehicle Gulledge was utilizing reportedly had a suspended registration. The tag was seized and vehicle towed.

Fraud

  • Police were dispatched to the 400 block of West Sterigere Street for a report of fraud Tuesday, Jan. 31. The victim stated she called her State Farm Insurance Company for a locksmith to open her vehicle, which she reportedly locked her keys inside. When the locksmith arrived, he told her he needed a credit card, which he copied once she provided one. He told it would cost $150 to open the vehicle and the victim reportedly told him that it was too much money. She states she refused service and he left. After checking her bank statement, she discovered her card was charged anyway. The insurance company reportedly will not talk to her to resolve the matter. The victim was issued victim’s rights and compensation forms.

Identity Theft

  • A victim reported to police Wednesday, Feb. 1, that he went to a tax filing business in Philadelphia to file tax returns. The employee at the center reportedly told the victim her taxes were already filed in Texas with a return of $4,800. That filing took place on Jan. 24. The funds reportedly were issued on the form of a Visa card that may not have been deposited yet. The victim states she did not authorize anyone to file her taxes on her behalf and she does not know who would file the taxes.

Theft

  • A tailgate protector to a 2008 white Ford F150 was reported stolen to police Tuesday, Jan. 31. The protector is valued at $100 and was stolen from the 500 block of Russwood Drive. The victim received victim’s rights and compensation forms.

Found Weapons

  • An individual from a local towing company went to the police department Tuesday, Jan. 31, to turn in two guns that were found in a red 2005 Ford F250. The owner of the weapons was contacted and informed he could call and make an appointment to pick up his property. The guns were placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Harassment

  • Police took a report of harassment at the police station Wednesday, Feb. 1, for an alleged incident that took place on the 500 block of Haws Avenue. The victim states the accused allegedly yelled obscenities at him, threatened to beat him up and spat in his face. The victim received a victim’s rights pamphlet.
  • A victim reported to police that she was harassed in front of her home on the 400 block of West Warren Street. She is a municipal employee and states that after going to court, she was approached by an individual who was driving a green Subaru hatchback. The victim told police the accused said, "So this is where you live?" The individual then stated the "issue" was going to be taken care of and the victim would not need to worry about it anymore. The victim does not want to be contacted by the accused again or driving by her house anymore.

Criminal Mischief

  • Someone reportedly using white spray paint marked several locations in the West End with the letters "NA," "NM5 AV Brooklyn" and "NiNos Malos 5 AV." Ninos Malos translates to "bad boys" in English.

Vandalism

  • Police were dispatched to the 100 block of East Marshall Street for a report of vandalism Wednesday, Feb. 1. The victim told police that an unknown person broke the rear window to his Toyota Camry while parked on the 600 block of Green Street. The victim received victim’s rights and compensation forms.
  • A taillight to a 1991 white Plymouth sedan was reported busted to police Monday, Jan. 30. The vehicle was parked on the 500 block of Haws Street at the time it was damaged. The victim received victim’s rights and compensation forms.
  • The window to a vacant rental property on the 600 block of East Moore Street was reported broken to police Tuesday, Jan. 31. The complainant does not believe anyone entered the building and estimates the damage at $150. A victim’s rights pamphlet was issued.

Disorderly Conduct

  • Hanson E. Murray, of the 200 block of East Park Avenue, was cited for disorderly conduct Wednesday, Feb. 1. Police reportedly observed Murray urinating next to a parked car on the 1000 block of DeKalb Street. He was cited on the scene.

Open Container

  • Omar Silva-Nunez, of the 600 block of West Marshall Street, was cited for having an open container Tuesday, Jan. 31. Police reportedly observed Silva-Nunez in the area of the 600 block of Astor Street with an open container of beer. Police claim his action caused alarm and served no legitimate purpose. He was cited and released on the scene.

Scattering Rubbish

  • Marquis Carter, of the 500 block of Meadowview Lane in Mont Clare, Pa., was cited for scattering rubbish Wednesday, Feb. 1. He allegedly discarded a red plastic cup onto a public roadway in the area of Harding and Markley streets.
  • Aurelio Alonso-Beristain, of the 600 block of Chain Street, was cited for scattering rubbish Tuesday, Jan. 31. Police reportedly observed Alonso-Beristain putting trash behind a residence on the 700 block of Chain Street. Alonso-Beristain does not own the property and the property is condemned. He was cited and released on the scene. 

Loud Stereo

  • Robert A. Jackson, of the 00 block of Spruce Street, was cited for loud stereo Wednesday, Feb. 1. Jackson reportedly operated a red Jeep in the area of Willow and Spruce streets while allegedly playing the stereo at a volume audible more than 35 yards away.

Warrants

  • Almere R. Robinson, of the 3800 block of North Crest Street in Philadelphia, was arrested for an active criminal warrant Wednesday, Feb. 1. He was taken into custody and transported to the police station for processing.
  • Stephanie Staerk, of the 3000 block of Janney Street in Philadelphia, was arrested for an outstanding criminal warrant Tuesday, Jan. 31. She went to the police station to turn herself in.
  • Crystal Crawford, of the 200 block of East Wood Street, was arrested for an active warrant while at district court. She was arraigned in front of the judge and released on unsecured bail.
  • Michael Clemens, of the 00 block of Locust Street, was arrested for an active fine and cost warrant Tuesday, Jan. 31.  He reportedly went to the police station for an unrelated matter and was discovered to have an active warrant. He was arrested, transported to court and released after appearing before the judge.
  • Monica C. Dawson, of the 300 block of West Logan Street, was arrested for active fine and cost warrants. Tuesday, Jan. 31. Police responded to Dawson’s address for a report of a disturbance and discovered the above active warrants. She was arrested, transported to the police station and held for arraignment.
  • Ivan Freeman, of the 3700 block of Palisades Drive in Philadelphia, was arrested for an active fine and cost warrant Wednesday, Feb. 1. Police reportedly observed Freeman inside a grey Dodge Charger with the lights off parked on the 200 block of West Lafayette Street. A records check revealed an active fine and cost warrant for $301.50. He was arrested and transported to the police station to await arraignment.

Police Information

  • A resident reported to police that here cell phone was either lost or stolen on the 1300 block of West Marshall Street Thursday, Jan. 26. It has a reported value of $350.
  • A victim reported to police that the passenger side front and rear tires of his 2008 Cevrolet Silverado were punctured as he was traveling westbound on the 600 block of East Airy Street. He stated he accidentally ran over a "No Parking" sign which was lying in the roadway. He believes the sign was knocked down from a previous accident in the area; however, police state no accidents were reported in the area during the past week.
