UPDATE: Police Searching for Suspect Who Shot Two Teens Monday Night in Norristown

Police say the victims of the shooting have not identified their attacker.

UPDATE: [11/13/12; 2:45 p.m.] Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono said that police are continuing to investigate the shooting at Chain and West Oak streets Monday evening that sent two teens – an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old – to a Philadelphia-area hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

"We had two teenagers shot, both in the buttocks," said Chief Bono. "They were both flown out to hospitals in Philadelphia. Everything I've gotten so far says that the injuries are not life threatening injuries."

Police have questioned the victims, but say they are not cooperating with the investigation.

"We believe they know who the assailant was," said Chief Bono. "But they, so far, have refused to identify him or them."

Police are currently searching for witnesses they believe may have information about the shooting.

"I guarantee you people know who the shooter is," said Chief Bono. "They make it very difficult, rather than just coming out and telling us who it is so we can go arrest them and get them off the street. My fear is that there will now be retaliation."

"It's been a problem in Norristown for years – lack of cooperation," Chief Bono continued. "We've worked very hard as a police department to try to gain cooperation and work with the community. These kids today are just of a different mindset."

Chief Bono said that currently, police have very little evidence to work from in the investigation. An earlier report that rounds were recovered from the scene were incorrect. Witnesses reported hearing five or six shots at the time of the incident, but no shell casings were recovered from the scene last night. Police had hoped to find more evidence in the daylight as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Norristown Police Department at 610-270-0977.

---

UPDATE: [11/13/12; 12:20 a.m.] According to The Times Herald, the two victims in Monday night's shooting at Chain and West Oak streets – an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old – were "known to police" for alleged prior incidents. The two were reportedly shot in the buttocks and their injuries are not believed to be life threatening, according to Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono. The two victims are reportedly not cooperating with police.

According to the Herald, Chief Bono described the suspect in the shooting as a black male wearing blue jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Authorities reportedly recovered multiple rounds form a semi-automatic weapon at the scene.

Norristown Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

---

UPDATE: [11/12/12; 8:45 p.m.] Police have confirmed that one adult and one juvenile have been injured in a shooting at Chain and West Oak Streets Monday night. Authorities are not releasing their identities at this time. Police say neither injury was life threatening to the victims.

Police and evidence technicians continue to scour the scene, which has been closed to traffic and cordoned off. Neighbors are lining the streets and tensions seem high. Police are still interviewing witnesses. No suspects have been identified.

---

UPDATE: [11/12/12; 8:22 p.m.] Authorities have cordoned off the area of West Oak Street at Chain Street in Norristown following a reported double-shooting on Monday night.

Reports from Breaking News Network indicated that two people had suffered multiple gunshot wounds on the 600 block of Chain St. and that two medical helicopters had been requested to the area.

The shooting was reported to 9-1-1 at about 7:12 p.m., according to an incident status page operated by the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety.

A reporter who visited the scene at about 8 p.m. observed a large crowd gathered outside the police cordon, some of them visibly upset.

We'll update this story with additional information when it's available.

Here we go again with the semi-automatic. You run around here with that damn gun and shoot people and think you gonna keep getting away with it but you are gonna get caught, with the gun and all. If they get the sorry ass detective they have from off the force maybe something can get done but when you have them sitting back not giving a damn about who's really doing it then that's a problem. They are too scared to get involved and they think its funny harrassing innocent people they know didn't do it just to make it seem like they solved something. You can't trust them especially with giving them info. Investigate them. You can't give criminals information about criminals.

To clear my words up I said the sorry ass detectives they have on cases like these where you have shootings. How many shootings have ther been and unsloved? That's because the victim that was shot would be one of the people that that specific detective on the case does not like so guess what happens, nothing. They make statements like the suspect was given awards for doing it. Like I said you can't tell law enforcement criminals infromation about street criminals and expect a trusted conviction. What's sad is that you can't trust the one's that should be helping you and that is why everybody says nothing. Just sth.

It has nothing to do with the detectives not liking the victim...they can't move forward when the "victim" doesn't cooperate.

10:10 am on Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Norristown has gone down hill, we have babies raising babies and kids having babies so other people can take care of them. I believe it is more then a black killing the black problem too. How are the cops supposed to be able to do their job efficiently if the two"victims" aren't cooperating? They won't learn until they are six feet under or laying in a nursing home in vegetative state. Shame on this city, it's worse then it ever has been...

Right and that's another problem how they just let them act like they know nothing. Then the Times Herald has "Two teens reportedly known to police for prior incidents were “shot in the buttocks” " but who cares they had priors with the police another shooting happened so because of that what the crime doesn't get solved. make their butts tell you or lock them up so they won't try retaliating. 18 and 16 not cooperating. Just like they force and threaten other people to tell stuff ????

Anybody read the newspaper? There's a trial going on right now for a murder in Norristown. Nothing gets done by the cops, huh? All you need is community members to stand up and say "enough", but instead they just complain about the cops and point the finger away from themselves.

Concerned you have communit members standing up and like the statement made earlier have you read it. Ok the comment still stands as is. I don't do crime so I'm not worried about the time and I don't have to point fingers when its clearly visible. Are you a concerned cop??

I can't believe these comments I'm reading. The two kids that were shot are refusing to talk to the police and they know who shot them. Yet you sit there and type comments about the police have to rely on snitches?! Don't you see how crazy that is? Here's the truth. Many of you know who shot these kids, their names and where they live and why they were shot. News travels around the hood faster than anywhere else. Someone on Arch Street knows why someone got stabbed on Kohn street like 15 minutes after it happens. Everybody knows it's the truth. Nobody speaks up though. They are scared they'll be next, their family will be hurt, retaliation. The criminals know they're safe because nobody will speak up. So the crime continues. If for just one month straight, you would call the cops when you see dealers out, or tell the truth when the cops ask you about crimes, we could clean up this town. But it's all or nothing. It can't be half the town is in and half the town is out. Norristown can keep having meetings and rallies and all that stuff, but until people get serious and band together against the criminals, nothing is going to change. It sure as hell is not the cop's fault. Blame them all you want for being bad or lazy or racist or crooked, but they aren't selling the rock and pulling the trigger. If a community wants to change, the change has to come from the community.

It's a real shame people put a racial slant on their comments. There are a multitude of contributing factors to these shootings.

1. Kids illegally obtaining handguns and settling scores by means of murder, having a total disregard for human life

2. Parents not giving a hoot what their kids are doing.

3. Drug sale terrority disputes.

4. Social status of the hood.

5. A deteriorating town.

6. Undermanned Police department in a highly tax burdened town.

7. Occasional home invasion and robbery

Totally agree with all of your points, especially #2, I have personally seen young children out past curfews, going to these house parties hosted by teens themselves, where are the parents, it definitly starts at home. It took the cake for me when I saw two teenage boys pull out guns and kick in a neighbors front door, I called the cops then and will continue to whenever I see this type of behavior.

It really is time to be moving.! We can't no longer live this way with bullets flying around the West Side. there have been at least a half dozen shootings around here in last couple months. No one in there right mine wants to move here, so we are just getting hudlooms from Philly moving in. We live in fear and lock ourselves in the
house. Our life not to good here. Norristown a bad place!

The Police need to get more agressive with the individuals or groups who deal drugs. It is so obvious when driving down the street who is selling and buying. It can't be made easy for these dealers to do business in Norristown. Also, the gangs have to be broken down. These gangs taken on street names is ridiculous. A curfew needs to be strictly enforced. Our leaders are failing us and not keeping the town safe. May God have mercy on those of us who live in Norristown.

I cannot believe that grown ass men and women are on this website blaming the police for this failed town. Bad behavior begins and should end AT HOME! The problem is NOT the police, it's the lazy ass parents who don't want to be parents. If I knew that my son or daughter had information on a shooting in ANY neighborhood, I would drag their little ass down to the police station by their ear and beat their ass in front of the police if they refused to give up the info. PARENTS need to do their job. The police can't solve a crime if they themselves didn't witness the crime...duh! How the hell can they solve any crime when they have a neighborhood full of punks with no backbone. if I find out ANYTHING about this shooting, I'm on the first thing smokin to the Norristown police dept., I'm tellin everything!

Good for you because I'm not dragging mine anywhere, especially if they had nothing to do with it. When you try to be a "good citizen" and do right they f--- you and next thing you know they trying to play you like you did it. Learned from that experience and will never let them know again. The police don't solve shit cause they too ignorant (certain one's) and just like you feel the police didn't witness shit, neither did your child so don't put him thru hearsay shit with them because you don't know what you will be getting yourself in or your child, but I feel like you that I myself will tell because I'm getting tired of these non-fighting punks who just don't care about human life.

That's right..."the cops ain't shit"...they're the ones who make these little shitbags run around the streets shooting eachother. Oh wait, it's probably the parents, or lack thereof who have no supervision or control of their kids. The cops can't be everywhere...maybe the little dirtballs should grow the hell up. These kids watch their parent doing this stuff & what else do they know!? They don't stand a chance!
How bout the CRIMINALS should be held accountable for THEIR actions & stop blaming the cops.

I love how most of the people leaving comments are completely uneducated and illiterate. These same people are contradicting themselves more than night and day. "dont snach", "speak up and do something"..I grew up believing I should never tell, but wait til it's your mother, father, brother, sister, or kid getting shot and killed. Or better yet when you're the one facing life in prison and you won't "snitch"..Then you can spend the rest of your life behind bars around a bunch of dudes(or women in a females case) away from your loved ones and you can pat yourself on the back because you "didnt snitch"..i spent a year of my life in a jail cell because I had that mentallity when I was 19, for a crime I didnt commit, but i'm "no snitch"..Time to grow up and be adults people...
