Teens Hospitalized After Late Night Accident in West Norriton
Two teens were flown by medevac to area hospitals after a car crash on Indian Port Road late Wednesday night.
Pieces of a red Volkswagon still litter the side of a road in West Norriton where the vehicle was involved in a crash that sent two teens to the hospital late Wednesday night.
According to Corporal Al Fazio of the West Norriton Police Department, the accident occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12. on the 700 block of Port Indian Road. Officers reportedly arrived on the scene to find a red Volkswagon Beatle with visible severe damage indicating that the vehicle had rolled over. The Volkswagon appeared to have hit an embankment and then a tree. Both the driver, an unidentified male juvenile, and the passenger, an unidentified female juvenile, were conscious and alert when police questioned them about the accident.
The driver reportedly told police that a deer ran in front of his car as he was traveling south on Port Indian Road from the direction of Egypt Road. According to a statement by the passenger, the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
The driver was transported by medevac to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment of head, shoulder and ankle pain and a laceration on the right side of his head.
The passenger, who reportedly told police she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported by medevac to Paoli Hospital for treatment of injuries to her hip, hand and chin.
According to Cpl. Fazio, both victims' injuries were serious, but none appeared to be life threatening. Police believe alcohol may have been involved in the cause of the crash and are awaiting the results of the driver's blood work. An investigating into the crash is currently underway.
The current condition of either teen is unknown.

Why aren't people in local accidents being transported to Einstein Hospital? I understand the need to Medevac people with life-threatenind injuries to Penn or Paoli, and I understand that Einstein does not yet have a functioning helicopter transport option, but the injuries in this accident (according to the article) were not life-threatening and an ambulance ride would only have been 15 minutes or so.

Any head injury requires a certified trauma center. Einstein is not yet certified as law requires a full year of operation for certification.
