Original Story
A municipal waste hauling truck crashed into a number of other vehicles at a SEPTA grade crossing in Norristown early Monday afternoon, shutting down SEPTA service and snarling traffic in the downtown area.
Times Herald editor Stan Huskey reported on Twitter that the driver told police his brakes had failed and that a diesel fuel spill was kept out of the Stony Creek by a fire crew.
Police at the scene said the waste truck was not operated by J.P. Mascaro. They declined to comment on whether anyone had been injured in the crash.
Crews are still working to remove the truck from the tracks. Northbound traffic on Markley is moving regularly, but southbound Markley is reduced to one lane at the Main Street intersection.
Norristown Patch will have updates s they become available.
