What Should Replace Main Changes?

The iconic clothing shop closed one year ago. What would we love to see take it's place?

Let's call this an open call for community planning – Norristown Patch's version of a brainstorming session where we hear from the community about its deepest consumer desires.

Each week we'll find a new vacant building in town and ask residents to tell us what you'd like to see come to town. Forget the zoning and setback regulations and all the other municipal jargon that puts people most to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

Let's start with Main Changes, the iconic rock 'n' roll clothing and memorabilia shop closed its doors at 114 E. Main St. last year after over 40 years in business.

"I can't believe how upset they are that I'm leaving," owner Peggy Dellisanti told The Times Herald back in February 2011. "It's very touching. You're talking four generations of people. When the adults would come into the store they felt like they could step into the past, and for the kids, they were making new memories. I've having such a tough time letting go. It's very emotional for me."

Nearly a year later, the building is still vacant. While nothing can actually take Main Changes' place in many peoples hearts, what would you like to see go in that prime piece of Main Street real estate?

While Norristown Patch might not actually be able to make it happen, we can spread the word on high about the sorts of business and community resources Norristown residents are looking for in their own backyards. So make your voice heard in our comment section – what do you want to see in this space?

It's funny you mention that Christine. I just talked with a developer with projects in Norristown who was envisioning the same thing. I'll let her know other folks share her vision. :)
There was also a suggestion that we try to lure a 5 Guys Burgers and Fries in. I wouldn't complain about that.

Yes, we need a coffeehouse there. People linger and enjoy in a coffeehouse. Art happens there. 5 Guys might be nice for some, but cancer, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, and heart disease inducing joints that only draw people for quick stops have enough of a presence downtown already.
