A gymnasium full of excited kids and their cheering fans—that’s what you’ll see and hear at the 2012 SCH LEGO League Challenge competition when 25 area teams go head to head using their engineering, research, and presentation smarts to complete this year’s challenge.

Come check out the competition, meet the student teams, roam the “pits,” and watch robot demos!

Details:

In the FLL competition, 4th through 8th grade students participate in teams of ten students. Each team is asked to design, build, and program a Lego NXT robot to perform a series of specific tasks related to the competition theme, which this year is Senior Solutions. They are also asked to make a presentation on a solution they have designed to a problem faced by senior citizens.

There will also be a Jr FLL competition for 1st through 3rd grade students. Teams will compete as well as engage in project presentations.

Schedule:

9am-12pm            Morning Practice and Presentations
1pm-3:30pm         FLL Field Competition, Closing Ceremony and Awards

Sponsored by Vulcan Springs, SCH Academy, University of Pennsylvania, Mount St. Joseph Academy’s robotics team, and FIRST, the national organization that seeks to promote young people’s interest in science and technology through robotics, this competition is the first in a series of area qualifiers. Winners will go on to compete at the state level and potentially the national/international level.
