MILITARY CAMPAIGNS OF THE CIVIL WAR

THE WILDERNESS AND SPOTSYLVANIA

The Historical Society of Montgomery County will host a seven-week course on Military Campaigns of the Civil War. “The Wilderness and Spotsylvania” will be taught by Michael Snyder, Tuesdays, October 8 through November 19, 7 to 9 p.m. Mr. Snyder is president of the Pottstown Historical Society, author, lecturer and educator. He has been guest speaker at Civil War Round tables throughout the country.

This course will focus on Battle of the Wilderness which marked the beginning of the most determined fighting by the Army of the Potomac. After the battle, Grant attempted to get between the Army of Virginia and Richmond, but Lee’s quick reaction brought another bloody battle around the Spotsylvania Court House.  Mr. Snyder will cover these battles in detail from the experiences of the men who fought them as well as the strategy of the army commanders.
