Norristown Student Receives Firstrust Bank's Samuel A. Green Scholarship

Firstrust Bank is proud to announce the thirty-five winning high school seniors of the 45th annual Samuel A. Green Scholarship program and the Samuel A. Green Teacher’s Award recipient.  Local student Kalyn Ramsey of Norristown Area High School received $1,000 in scholarship money. The awards program is one of the region’s most renowned high school scholarship programs.  The thirty-five deserving scholarship recipients were celebrated today during a ceremony at The Franklin Institute.

“The purpose of this scholarship competition is to empower students to utilize their ingenuity and education to advance their communities and what better place to celebrate this mission than The Franklin Institute, a model for using creativity and intellect to give back to the world,” said Richard J. Green, C.E.O. and Vice Chairman of Firstrust.  “We are excited to celebrate our 80th anniversary with such a distinguished group of scholarship recipients, all of whom are poised to make positive changes in their own communities.”

Samuel A. Green, founder of Firstrust, believed in the importance of receiving a college education and using it to give back to the community. Eighty years later, the bank remains committed to these same values.  This annual scholarship program upholds those founding principles by honoring young people in the region who reflect these principles.

Top honors included Academy at Palumbo student, Courtney Washington, who received the Grand Prize of $10,000; Central Bucks East senior, Emily K. Horn; Furness High School student Nysha Johnson; and Mastery Charter High School senior, Syerra McFadden, who received $5,000 scholarships; and a $5,000 Special Recognition Award was awarded to Dallas S. The Samuel A. Green Scholarship Program has helped Firstrust award almost a million dollars to more than 1,000 area college-bound students and families in the past 45 years.

“The amount of talent and enthusiasm that these students put forth every year never ceases to amaze me, even after all this time,” said Mr. Green.  “The heights that these students will reach are limitless, and it is an honor to help them get there.”
