Community Corner

Want to see plays for free? Theatre Horizon is looking for new ushers!

A non-profit like Theatre Horizon runs with a small staff, an active Board of Directors, a few volunteer committees, and then our volunteers (YOU!).  It takes a lot of effort from all parties to ensure that Theatre Horizon continues to grow and serve its community to the best of its ability. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our family; especially as ushers.

Here's the lineup for the 2013-2014 season:

  • Our first show is the Pulitzer Prize winning play I Am My Own Wife (written by Doug Wright) from October 31st – November 24th, 2013. Based on a true story, this Pulitzer Prize winning play tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German man who managed to live under the noses of the Nazis and the Communists while dressed as a woman. Having endured two of history's most repressive regimes, Charlotte's ambiguity made her a bridge between unlikely worlds. Celebrated actor Charlie DelMarcelle portrays over 30 characters and seduces us with Charlotte's tale of politics, survival, and beauty.
  • Our second show is Annie Baker's Circle Mirror Transformation, directed by resident director Matthew Decker and running from February 20th - March 16th, 2014. When four lost New Englanders who enroll in Marty's six-week-long community-center drama class begin to experiment with harmless games, hearts are quietly torn apart, and tiny wars of epic proportions are waged and won. A beautifully crafted diorama in which we see, with hilarious detail and clarity, regular people undergoing titanic transformations.
  • Our last show of the season is Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (written adaptation by Patrick Barlow), running May 15th - June 8th, 2014. Mix an Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps—a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This 2-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of 4), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!

Talent Needed: good people skills, excellent customer service attitude, attention to detail, ability to focus on a given task, being on time.
