Friends Organize Benefit for Norristown Man's Family

Michael Humphries reportedly died suddenly in the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 4, and friends have organized a fundraiser to help pay funeral costs and support his family.

Several Norristown Patch readers have contacted me about the passing of 31-year-old Michael Humphries on Sunday, Nov. 4. Humphries would be 32 years old today, Thursday, Nov. 8.

According to his obituary on Lifecelebration.com, Humphries, the son of Michael A. Humphries and Regina Thompson, left behind a family including his love Heather LaVair and children Mya, Ella and soon-to-be-born Michael Matthew Humphries Jr.

Friends and family are raising funds to help pay for Humphries' services and support his children. Tonight from 7 to 10 p.m., friends will be celebrating his life at Chap's Taproom in Jeffersonville. There will be raffle items and a way for supporters to contribute in person.

Donations can also be made to The Humphries' Children Education Fund, c/o Beneficial Bank, 2905 Whitehall Road, Norristown, PA 19403.

Friends have also created a fundraising page on gofundme.com, where this tribute isposted:

"Hump was a friend to many and had a huge heart and spirit! He lived each day to the fullest, loved his children, family and friends unconditionally.  For those who knew Hump, he was unbreakable in so many ways. He is now in a better place and we plan to cherish his legacy and memories for years to come."

For more information on the fundraising effort and the event at Chap's Taproom tonight, email Hakim Jones at hjones126@gmail.com.

A viewing for Michael Humphries will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Boyd-Horrox Funeral Home, 200 West Germantown Pike in East Norriton, followed by his funeral service at 3 p.m. Interment will reportedly be private.

Dang! I wish I read this when it was posted. I would have loved this opportunity! I know a girl atRead More NAHS who just started a club called F.L.O. (For Ladies Only). The discuss fashion, beauty, etc. If they knew about this they could have fund raised to be apart of this. Being that its one month away, I doubt $750 will be just lying around. I hope Harcum will offer this next summer as well, it's a great school and a wonderful opportunity to get the skills needed to survive in the Fashion Merchandising realm of College.
