million project to rebuild and improve Markley Street/U.S. 202 South between Elm Street and Johnson Highway.

In the event rain forces a postponement of the resurfacing work, paving will be rescheduled for the nights of April 4 and April 5.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow additional time for travel on Main Street during resurfacing activities.

PennDOT began construction in April 2013 to preserve the historic stone arch by rehabilitating and strengthening the bridge’s stone arch, rebuilding parapets, constructing new sidewalks and repaving the span.

The Main Street Bridge is owned by Montgomery County and maintained by Norristown Borough.  The bridge, which was built in 1854, is 40 feet long and 83 feet wide.

J.D. Eckman of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $20,825,701 contract that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
