Local Teens Plan Dance to Fight Depression

Kick Teen Depression, an awareness group started by Plymouth-Whitemarsh teens, is holding its first dance this Saturday.

Kick Teen Depression, a group founded by local teens to deal directly with their peers about the issue of depression, is holding a teen dance this Saturday, Feb. 9, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Fellowship House, 515 Harry Street in Conshohocken.

The groups mission, according to its Facebook page, is to raise awareness about the issue while "giving peer support on a communal level."

The dance is the group's second event, after a successful conference at Fellowship House back in July.

"We're just trying to save people's lives," founder Tracey Scott told The Times Herald back in July. "[Depression] almost took mine."

Scott's mother Dana Scott told the Herald it's just as important for parents to be attentive to their children's mental health.

"You need to know what’s going on with your kids," she told the Herald. "You need to understand the signs of depression."

The dance is open to high school students with ID. Admission is $3.
