Mandatory Water Conservation Issued for Norristown

There are no health concerns with the water, but customers may notice discoloration and low water pressure.

Pennsylvania American Water has issued a mandatory water conservation notice for Norristown and surrounding areas, the company said Tuesday morning.

"It is important to reduce your water consumption due to treatment issues that have limited the production capacity of our Norristown Water Treatment Plant," the company said in a Facebook post. "Recent heavy rains created high turbidity (cloudiness) in the raw water supply and affected the plant’s capacity to meet typical customer demand. Customers are asked to limit their water use to essential purposes only until plant operators can resolve the issue."

There are no health concerns with the water, the company said, but customers may notice discoloration and low water pressure.

About 31,000 customers in the following areas are affected:

• Norristown
• Bridgeport
• East Norriton Township
• West Norriton Township
• Upper Merion Township
• Lower Providence Township
• Plymouth Township
• Whitpain Township
• Worcester Township
• Perkiomen Township

The company did not say how long the restrictions would be in place.
