McKinley Memorial Baptist Church Addresses Domestic Violence

Sunday is Men’s Day at the McKinley Memorial Baptist Church in Willow Grove, but tomorrow, in honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the service and a repast will include domestic violence speakers, according to Pastor Marlon Millner, who also serves as a councilman at large in the borough of Norristown.  

The public is invited to join in the fellowship by attending the church’s 11 a.m. service and a repast afterward.

Guests will learn about domestic violence from special speakers. Confirmed speakers include representatives from the domestic violence organization Laurel House in Norristown. There will be resources available from Menergy, a Philadelphia organization that helps abusers to learn how to stop abusing.

The Montgomery County, Prothonotary, Mark Levy, will join in the event.

The church is “taking a day that celebrates men to challenge them on an issue that overwhelmingly affects women,” wrote Millner in an email to Patch.com.

President Barack Obama proclaimed in September of this year that October would now be National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. “I call on all Americans to speak out against domestic violence and support local efforts to assist victims of these crimes in finding the help and healing they need, he wrote in a post on the White House website.

According to the church’s website, Millner has served at their pastor since August of 2012. Millner.  He has served as a Norristown councilman at large since January of 2013, per the borough’s website. He is up for re-election in November. 

The church is located in Willow Grove at 214 Cedar Avenue (Easton Road at the Office Max store, one mile off of the PA Turnpike).
