Montco SAAC Celebrates National Senior Center Month

Check out special and regular activities at SAAC for Senior Center Month.

may be the best-kept secret in Norristown! If you have any time on your hands, or you are looking for a place to exercise, meet people, or learn about an age related issue, come check things out during National Senior Center Month in September!

The day starts at 8 a.m. with preparations for Meals on Wheels. One hundred and thirty Norristown area shut-ins are served two meals every weekday. Without the help of center members the work would never get done. At about 10 a.m., another wave of volunteers arrive to take the meals out and deliver them, along with a friendly visit.

By 10:30 a.m., the daily activities are in full swing with Line Dancing, Zumba, games, and informative seminars. The Internet café, Bites and Bytes, is open 'till 11:30 a.m. with coffee and snacks as well as three computers and wireless access.

At 11:30 a.m., a complete lunch is served. The monthly menu includes a complete balanced meal with drinks and dessert. Our dining room, Carmen’s Café, offers a bright comfortable environment, monthly entertainment and birthday parties.

After lunch, our day continues with Silver Sneakers, weight loss programs and a variety of educational programs. Friendships and conversation flourish, as other members relax after a good meal. The poolroom is open, featuring billiards and pinochle 'till 4 p.m.

Senior Center month is the perfect time to visit and see the Montco SAAC facility. The SAAC staff has been planning expanded activities and programming including the annual health fair, a Senior Crime Prevention program from the state Attorney General’s office, an open house in the fitness center, and a concert featuring Michael Kropp, a local musician.

And you don’t have to be a senior citizen to participate. Many of the classes and activities are open to younger adults, and SAAC's effort to keep program costs low can benefit you as well.

Drop by for a tour or to check out the center's offerings any weekday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Montco SAAC is located at 536 George Street, Norristown (between Airy and Marshall Streets.) Call 610-275-1960 for more information. This is the month to share the secret!
