Montgomery County-Native Bradley Cooper Preps for Oscar Night

The Philadelphia-born, Jenkintown-raised Cooper is up for Best Actor.

As viewers make the popcorn and snuggle up on the couch, Bradley Cooper is likely checking his tux, checking the limo times and stretching for a long walk down the red carpet.

The Oscars are this Sunday. The awards will air at 7 p.m. Sunday on ABC. Up for best actor is the Montgomery County-born and -raised Bradley Cooper. His work in "Silver Linings Playbook" has helped to net the flick eight nominees including best actor, best actress (his co-star Jennifer Lawrence), best picture and best director (David O. Russell).

The Philadelphia-based flick was a nice return home for the local man, who grew up in Jenkintown and graduated from Germantown Academy. He said he is looking forward to Oscar night, but win or lose is proud of the movie.

He told Yahoo! News, "I'm confused, happy and really excited" about Oscar night.

In an interview with Los Angeles ABC 7, Cooper said his date to the red carpet will be his mom.

"She's a force, let me tell you. Don't mess with her. She's Italian from South Philly, no filter," said Cooper. "It's going to be an interesting red carpet, I'll just say that."

The man who calls Robert De Niro his "friend," said he was happy to work alongside him again in this movie. The two had previously paired up in "Limitless."

He said when he only had a week to prepare, "Bob" helped to calm him.

"Bob said, ‘You’re from Philly, you are Italian/Irish, you know, it’s all there. You’re going to be fine,'" said Cooper to ABC News.

The other calming factor was being "home" to shoot the entire film. He said he was happy to don a DeSean Jackson Eagles jersey much of the shooting.

"I love the Eagles," he said.

Through it all, Cooper said he's remained quite humble.

"If this industry doesn’t humble you, it does nothing else," he told ABC. "When social media is at your finger tips .... well ... humility..."

He says he tries not to read social media or reviews about him or his movies.

Cooper said it was his upbringing in the area that helped to mold him into the actor he is today.

"He described Philadelphia as a 'very idiosyncratic' city," said CBS Good Morning of Cooper. "His Italian mother, Gloria, stayed home with Bradley and his sister, Holly, while his Irish father, Charles, traded stocks. After work, he would teach his son about movies."

"I have a tremendous amount of pride because my family's roots are imbedded in Philly," he told CBS.
