Lower Gwynedd police recently released information relating to a Sunday wedding that went awry after a box containing the couple’s gift of cash and checks reportedly went missing after the bride placed it in the back seat of a car parked at the William Penn Inn in Gwynedd.

Lower Gwynedd police were dispatched to the inn around 7:30pm to investigate the reported theft.  Today they released photos that may relate to the case.

According to police, the bride reportedly put a large white box resembling a wedding cake, which was full of envelopes that guests had brought for the married couple, into the back seat of a car.  The car was left unattended for a few minutes and the box disappeared.

On Monday someone who identified himself as “Ryan B” posted an announcement on the Lower Gwynned-Ambler-Whitpain Patch titled “William Penn inn wedding theif” in which he posted a photo of a man and wrote “We believe he stole our wedding gift box on 7/7/13 right out of my wife's car. He was caught on camera snooping around earlier  In  the night. If you know who it is, please contact police or william penn inn.”

Today police released photos of a man who appears to be the same man in the photo posted on Patch, who Lower Gwynedd police chief Paul Kenny referred to as “a person of interest.”

The identity of the man is not yet known, though it was established that he was not an employee and was not a wedding guest.

According to police, a white male in a green shirt was observed in and around the banquet area at the inn.  Another guest reported seeing a dark grey Mazda, which was caught on camera.

From here the police hope that someone can identify the man and share the information with police.

“It’s really sad for such as happy event of the bride and groom that it ended with a crime, said Kenny.  “A day that they’ll never forget just became more unforgettable.”
