Norristown's Arts Ambassador Travels to Europe

Local artist Stefania Luciani recently visited Italy and France, bearing gifts of flags and honey and an invitation to Norristown's Bicentennial Celebration.

Norristown's Stefania Luciani is a multi-faceted, international artist whose works include everything from oil paintings to soft muted landscapes, to wall size oil canvasses and mosaics.

Luciani recently returned from her "Heart of Unity Tour" in an effort to build identity and connect cultures through her art. Her travels took her to the Italian villages of Tollo, Tornareccio, Ravenna and Paris, France. Luciani met with the mayor of each city and presented them the Norristown flag, Norristown-produced honey and an invitation to return to Norristown for our bicentennial celebration.   At each stop, she had her "flag of unity" signed. The flag – a painting that she carries on her travels – has been signed by people from both America and Europe.

Luciani hopes to help Norristown create an art presence and bettering its sense of community. "Fervet Opus" (hard working) is emblazoned on the flag of Norrsitown as our motto. The honey symbol present in our flag is also the symbol of the Italian villages she visited. Tornareccio, the village where Luciani's relatives live, is known as the "Queen of Honey."

As a culmination of her efforts and a continuation of her "Let Freedom Ring Forever" projects, Luciani worked with a master of mosaics in the town of Ravenna, Italy, the mosaic capital of the world, to produce her "Heart of Unity" mosaic. Luciani hopes to install the piece on the outside of a building in Norristown's Arts Hill area.
