Theater Horizon Kicks Off New Season With ‘Bites, Wine & Jazz’ Community Event

The local theater will celebrate its 2013-14 season with an evening of food, entertainment, and an announcement of a new ticket program that is free for Norristown residents.

Theater Horizon in Norristown will kick off its 2013-14 season with its Bites, Wine & Jazz on Sept. 15 from 5-7 p.m., a community event sponsored by PNC Arts Alive with local restaurant treats, entertainment, and a community announcement, according to a release from the theater.

Guests will also be treated to a culinary tour of Norristown, where they can taste the food of nearby restaurants: Banh Mi Bar and Bistro, August Moon, Dolce Vita Restaurant, Dolce Vita Restaurant, Seasons 52, Jus' Java, and A’Dello Vineyard and Winery, and more.

Theater Horizon will make the announcement that they have a new Rush Ticket program for Norristown residents that is underwritten by PNC Arts Alive. The theater will hold seven tickets to each performance of each show, and the tickets will be free for Norristown residents. These rush tickets are first come, first served and are available on the day of the show. Norristown residents must show their ID as proof of residency.

The evening’s entertainment includes an appearance by Charlie DelMarcelle playing Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German man who managed to live under the noses of the Nazis and the Communists while dressed as a woman. Charlotte is the main character of Horizon Theatre’s season opening play, I Am My Own Wife, the Pulitzer Prize winning play written by Doug Wright. DelMarcelle will perform scenes from the show, which will open in Oct. Local jazz vocalist Lyndsey Piecyk, will also perform with pianist Alex Posmontier.
