As , the Genuardi's on West Germantown Pike in East Norriton is set to close for good today at 6 p.m.
While new owner of the location, Weis Markets, has yet to confirm when they'll reopen, employees and customers and at least one source in the food distributor business have reported that the store will be reopening as a Weis on Saturday, June 16.
According to sources at the store, many Genuardi's employees will remain, working for Weis Markets. While the store will be closed for the week to make the transition, the pharmacy will remain open so customers will have access to their prescriptions.
Weis already has a presence in place at the location – a customer service rep was on hand during a recent visit this week signing Genuardi's customers up for the Weis Preferred Shoppers Club Card.
The Genuardi family started it's supermarket empire with it's first store in Norristown in 1954. Supermarket chain Giant entered into an agreement back in January of this year with Genuardi’s owner Safeway to acquire sixteen stores in the Greater Philadelphia area. Weis entered into an agreement in February to buy three area Genuardi's locations – East Norriton, Conshohocken and Doylestown.
