Make the Pledge to Shop Small in Norristown

American Express wants to encourage cardholders to support their local businesses on Small Business Saturday.

Retailers are opening earlier and earlier on Black Friday, with stores like Toys R Us opening at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving and Target opening at 11 p.m. that night.

Boscov’s at the Plymouth Meeting Mall is open on Thanksgiving for early bird shoppers from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and then opens on Black Friday at 4 a.m.

But after Black Friday shoppers have brought home their hauls and caught up on sleep, there’s another day of sales and specials that doesn’t require camping out overnight, fighting with other shoppers, or feeding corporations.

The Saturday after Black Friday is Small Business Saturday. The second annual event, hosted by American Express on Nov. 26 this year, wants people to "pledge to shop small."

Small businesses that register with Small Business Saturday can get free in-store marketing and e-marketing materials, free Facebook ads and more.

When you register your American Express card and use that card to make a purchase of $25 or more at a small business on Small Business Saturday, you’ll receive a one-time $25 statement credit.

Want to get involved but don't know where to start? Let Norristown Patch help. Check out our Places Page for a comprehensive list of local business complete with descriptions, contact info and pictures. Or go to Small Business Saturday's Facebook page and get updates about the program and participating businesses.

Norristown has plenty of local businesses that could use your support so be sure to shop local on Saturday and earn that statement credit.
