New Dialysis Facility Opens on Campus of the Abramson Center for Jewish Life

Fresenius Medical Care North America, the nation’s leading network of dialysis facilities, today announced the opening of Abramson Dialysis Center, a new eight-station dialysis clinic on the campus of the Madlyn and Leonard Abramson Center for Jewish Life.

Fresenius Medical Care partnered with the Abramson Center for Jewish Life and Dr. Edward Jones to serve greater Philadelphia’s growing population of patients with chronic kidney disease. Conveniently located at 1425 Horsham Road, North Wales, situated alongside the Abramson Center’s long-term care residence, independent living facility and rehabilitative care center, Abramson Dialysis Center offers traditional in-center daytime dialysis, as well as other patient services including a kidney transplant support program, vascular care, anemia management, nutrition counseling, bone disease management and social worker support to Abramson clients and outside community members.

Edward Jones, M.D., a nephrologist (kidney specialist) with Delaware Valley Nephrology & Hypertension Associates, which has offices in Philadelphia and Lansdale, provides medical director oversight. “Patients at this new facility will enjoy the benefits of excellent, patient-centered care and customer service,” said Dr. Jones. “Dialysis patients spend many hours receiving treatment each week, so we are pleased to offer this high level of care and comfort, now in a more convenient location for people in the greater Philadelphia area.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with Fresenius Medical Care to bring our clients and the community top-notch renal dialysis services,” said Carol Irvine, president and CEO of the Abramson Center. “Now with in-house dialysis services, we are not only able to achieve higher success rates, but also provide a better quality of care and, most importantly, quality of life for our clients, which is the heart of the ‘Abramson Approach’ and our core mission at all times.”

Dialysis is a life-sustaining process that cleans waste products from the blood and removes extra fluids when a person’s kidneys fail. Dialysis patients typically require treatment on an ongoing basis unless they receive a kidney transplant. Fresenius Medical Care facilities use blood-filtering dialyzers only once, unlike other facilities that may disinfect and reuse them. Dialysis stations also feature the CHAIRSIDE® online charting and electronic health record system with touch-screen monitors, for clinical staff to enter and securely track critical patient information.

Each dialysis treatment station features individual media systems to enhance patient comfort. Wireless Internet access is also available for patients who bring their own computers or Wi-Fi-enabled smartphones.

Fresenius Medical Care also offers Treatment Options Programs (TOPs) at no cost, to inform at-risk patients and their families about chronic kidney disease and all available treatments for kidney failure, including dialysis and kidney transplants.
