Gun Rights Advocates Rally in Norristown

Locals organized a 'Montgomery County Day of Resistance' at the courthouse to call attention to what they feel is a threat to their rights as Americans.

More than 150 people, many armed, gathered on the street in front of the Montgomery County Courthouse on Saturday afternoon for a rally organized by Citizens for Liberty

The rally featured several speakers who spoke passionately about their thoughts on gun control and was followed by an open carry walk through town.

Norristown Police were present for the gathering.

Can't wait to organize some other events.
Jackie Piotrowski February 24, 2013 at 04:23 PM
Joe, you asked how did we know who was who? because we crossed the isles and went to different meetings, sought out like minded liberty individuals who wanted to protect their constitutional rights. The movement will die if people don't stand up. Stand up for your rights, protect your freedoms!
Joe The Nerd Ferraro February 24, 2013 at 04:51 PM
the 2nd Amendment is now about intimidation not freedom.
Jackie Piotrowski February 24, 2013 at 04:54 PM
No it has nothing to do with intimidation, its about protection
Joe The Nerd Ferraro February 24, 2013 at 05:10 PM
look at the NRA's language and tactics. they want to intimidate everyone. I have no issue with someone wanting to protect themselves with a weapon as long as they are trained to use it properly. i do have a beef when certifiable lunatics are allowed unfettered access to weapons. the NRA is making itself certifiable.
Steve Piotrowski February 24, 2013 at 06:05 PM
Who said that we a strong advocates of the NRA? They are just one of many organizations, and they do not represent all gun owners. The 2nd Amendment was put in our Constitution by our founding fathers as a psychological deterrent to remind our government that we created it and if it should ever be come to tyrannical, we have the right to either alter or abolish it. We are not here to take away anybody else's rights, we're here to exercise our rights. God forbid if we should ever go 20 years without some kind of little rebellion. These people that came are true patriots and realize that the 2 party system is corrupt and wants to divide us, we will no longer be divided.
Dot February 24, 2013 at 08:54 PM
Well said, Steve! It was a great gathering. Thanks!
Joe The Nerd Ferraro February 24, 2013 at 09:16 PM
unfortunately the psychological deterrent is making everyone crazy. so how do you propose altering or abolishing this form of government? are you going to shoot at the already well-organized militias we have, the Pa National Guard or your local cops, to meet that end? and after you overthrow this government - what are you proposing to replace it with? are you going to stick a gun in the chest of everyone who speaks against you? I want to get a sense of how far you and your non-NRA affiliated group are planning to go. show me how you are any different from the Occupy Movement. BTW, I agree with the corruption of the 2 Party system. But, I won't take arms up against it. I prefer to use the system, as it stands, to press for freedom. Already more than half of the people who can vote - won't. Solve that issue and you may have a peaceful solution.

According to some historians the 2nd Amendment was not about protection or freedom, but was intended to preserve slavery. Read this: http://truth-out.org/news/item/13890-the-second-amendment-was-ratified-to-preserve-slavery
Ramsey February 25, 2013 at 01:28 AM
I'm sure no one at this gathering was victimized on the steet that day! Go ahead make my day punk!
Jane February 25, 2013 at 01:51 AM
Joe, as I said, it is for ALL Americans who want to uphold The Constitution!! It is as simple as that!! We are creating awareness in citizens of each and every party, that our country
Jane February 25, 2013 at 02:11 AM
...continued, is in a soft state of Tyranny, and We The People will be heard, we demand our God given freedoms when we were born free. Everyone has these freedoms, so noboby should be denied them. Patriots are not afraid to be heard!!
Joe The Nerd Ferraro February 25, 2013 at 03:18 AM
We the People ARE being heard. We the People are starting to look at 2nd Amendment Zealots as crazy and life threatening. Ask any Sandy Hook Parent.
Joe The Nerd Ferraro February 25, 2013 at 03:18 AM
The Constitution can be changed. Remember the Original Constitution did not have a freedom to bear arms. It had to be amended to get it.
Steve Piotrowski February 25, 2013 at 11:42 AM
Joe, let's not get ahead of ourselves now by fear mongering and politicizing the death of children. Now we all know that the Sandy Hook shooter stole that gun and was a criminal. He was not a law abiding citizen. I bet you if you were at that school armed, you would have smoked that criminal, and you would of saved a lot of lives. Please go a head and tell me otherwise!
Steve Piotrowski February 25, 2013 at 11:52 AM
The police we're wonderful. Thank you all for the support. It's time that we educate the populace, arm law abiding citizens, and help to peacefully protect the community from violence. Yesterday we stood in solidarity with the Tea Party, Anonymous, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and libertarians in support for the second amendment and the PA Constitution. Those rights are meant to protect us from a tyrannical government, and if we do not exercise those rights we will surely lose them. This proves that people can come together for common principled causes. The 2 Party system keeps us divided.
Joe The Nerd Ferraro February 25, 2013 at 01:40 PM
How about the Colorado Movie Theater or the Sikh Temple? People waited to calm down after those and nothing was done. I bet I can set a 3 digit number people who will be blown away. I could run a pool to see how long it will take to reach that number. I bet a lot of folks would pick a date within 6 weeks. Since I don't handle firearms - i would probably miss my target. (I would have tried to get close enough to allow other methods.) Interesting experiment at Muhlenburg College about that exact situation. People who were armed would have been likely victims. If the shooter knew they were carrying - they go first.
Jane February 25, 2013 at 02:16 PM
Vote on POLICY...NOT PARTY!! Keep those in office accountable to US!! WE put them there!!
Daniel Wissert February 25, 2013 at 06:45 PM
What an awesome turnout! I love it we made the front page. I can't wait till the next Rally! This is so ULTIMATE!
Jane February 25, 2013 at 06:59 PM
Daniel...thank you for standing up for American freedom...we WILL be heard!! Have you attended a CFL meeting?? It is open to everyone!!
KT February 25, 2013 at 07:08 PM
Yeah, you made the "front page" of the local patch blog site! Way to go, man! Next stop, the Wall Street Journal! I would love to know how many of the folks who showed up for this actually live in Norristown? (as opposed to the sleepy, safe, relatively crime free towns in Montco) Considering the number of shootings in town recently, I think you'd be hard pressed to find that many people whose top priority is protecting gun rights.
Jane February 25, 2013 at 07:44 PM
Some actually do live there!! It is the county seat so was quite appropriate to be there standing up for our freedoms!! Uphold our God given rights that we were born free with!! Thank you Founding Fathers...we will not forget you!!
KT February 25, 2013 at 08:11 PM
Careful now....GOD gave you no such right. Also, good call on a Saturday rally, geniuses. That's when you'll really get everyone's attention! Well, all the indigent people who are walking by on their way to the library, anyway.
Jane February 25, 2013 at 08:23 PM
We were born free!! Anytime IS the time to stand for liberty!! Out of respect for citizens with prior obligations, thank you for standing in the rain!! God bless you all!! God bless the U.S.A.
Brian March 02, 2013 at 08:18 PM
We need another rally. We drove to norristown from quakertown. Today we attended the rally in doylestown. The more rallies, the more people awaken. We are simply seed planters.
Jane March 03, 2013 at 02:05 PM
Very well said, Brian!
Bill March 04, 2013 at 11:06 PM
I'll have what Jane's having.
Jane March 05, 2013 at 06:41 PM
If you all like this, please come to Citizens for Liberty's monthly meetings. They are the third Wednesday of the month , 7 to 9p.m.!! They will be at a new venue on Main Street, downtown Norristown , at a gorgeous downtown Mom and Pop Restaurant, Giacomo's!! Don't let the outside fool you, and plenty of parking!! Adrian Reast March 28, 2013 at 09:44 PM
Joe I will try and make it simple so even a nerd gets it. Recently a neighbor of mine was killed by a drunk driver. I propose that as a punishmnet we should severely restrict your driving privileges. That will really show the drunk driver we mean business won't it?
Joe The Nerd Ferraro April 02, 2013 at 04:07 PM
hmmm - maybe we should license drivers - oh wait - we already do!
