Joey Cintron Gets His Van

Norristown resident Joey Cintron's fundraising efforts have won out, with Cintron finally raising enough to buy the wheel-chair accessible van that will greatly improve his life.

Many Patch readers first learned about Cintron's story in an article posted in July, in which we outlined Cintron's plight and his efforts to raise $30,000 for a wheelchair van with a lift. He's been in a wheelchair for the last 30 years after an accident at a party in 1981 left him a C4-C5 quadriplegic, paralyzed from the neck down. Cintron lives with and is cared for by his 66-year-old mother.

"She has literally made me her life," Cintron says on his fundraising page. "She washes me, feeds me, and exercises me. You name it, my (single parent) mother does it."

Now Cintron and his mother's lives have been made a bit easier with the wheel-chair accessible van, making transporting him less of a physical burden on them.

Cintron posted on his Facebook fundraising page back in November with the good news:

"Papers Are Signed!!!!! 2013 dodge grand caravan wheelchair van!!!!! To all who supported me, thank you so much for making this happen. You just changed my life!!'
