Norristown Area School District's 7th Annual "Evening with the Arts"

On Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. the music and art departments of the Norristown Area School District will be presenting the 7th annual "Evening with the Arts" to the school district and community at the Norristown Area High School. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

This unique experience allows teachers to display their artistic and musical talents as a way of promoting the arts in Norristown while giving local families an opportunity to enjoy music and art in an open setting at no cost.

In the lobby of the high school, art teachers will display their own personal works as well as the art of students in the district. Paintings and 3D art will be represented as these teachers strive to communicate the relationship between mentor and student. It is this connection that assists young people in expressing themselves creatively through unique and amazing visual designs.  This part of the event is presented as a casual gallery walk where the public has a chance to view and have great conversation about art with the artists themselves.

At 7 p.m., the event will change formats as the Norristown music teachers present a concert recital in the high school auditorium. Numerous combinations of instruments will perform varied styles of music selected and rehearsed by the teachers. In past years, this portion of the evening has featured jazz combos, barbershop-style singing, rock performances, classical string quartets, extraordinary vocalists, and even an African drumming ensemble.  In this variety of musical performances, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The closing piece is always an inspiring vocal ensemble selection where all of the music teachers (and some art teachers as well!) come together to sing in harmony. Each year the event is attended by students and families who have come to support their teachers. School board members and our district superintendent Dr. Janet Samuels, who will give closing remarks, will also attend.
