Norristown Soldier Re-enlists at Memorial Wall of the Fallen in Afghanistan

Sgt. Jasmine Cotton, of the 101st Airborne Division, pledged her oath at the memorial in Salerno, Afghanistan.

According to a story provided by the U.S.'s Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System (DVIDS), a Norristown native and U.S. Army soldier recently re-enlisted in the service while still deployed in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Jasmine Cotton, a signal support non-commissioned officer from Headquarters Company, 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), recently made her second pledge to serve her country for a second term of enlistment. Sgt Cotton reportedly made her pledge at the Memorial Wall of the Fallen at the Forward Operating Base in Salerno, Afghanistan while deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom.

"I wanted to reenlist at the wall to represent the fallen soldiers and their units," Cotton said.

The wall was dedicated on May. 31, 2012, Memorial Day, as a memorial to all the soldiers who have served at the Forward Operating Base in Salerno. Below each unit insignia are the names of those soldiers who died in the line of duty.

“The wall wasn’t here during my first deployment while at FOB Salerno, but seeing it stand now really means a lot to me,” said Sgt. Cotton.

Sgt. Cotton was sworn in by Battalion Operations Officer Maj. Michael Gacheru.

I appreciate anyone's commitment to serve his country. I can honestly say that right now at this point in time I could not do it again because if the general population of America really knew the terns of engagement with the enemy they would never send their kids not for this government.
