Feng Shui

Feng Shui will keep your home Serene and SOLD.  Using the principles of Feng Shui will cleanse your space and make it ready for a new buyer. Do the ancient techniques of Feng Shui help sell your home?  Many think so.  Home buyers normally choose a property because it feels right.  Translated from Chinese, Feng Shui means “wind water”.  To the ancient Chinese people, wind and water were associated with health and luck.  Feng Shui is a way to balance the energies in your environment in order to promote good health and good luck.  In more practical terms, Feng Shui helps you organize your home in order to have a healthier and happier life.

PREPARING TO SELL YOUR HOME
All of your energy needs to be removed from the house in order to allow someone else’s to flow into it.  That means removing all personal items such as photos, paintings, books and knickknacks.  If you try to leave a part of yourself in your house, a part of the house will still be in you.  Take active steps to ensure everyone in your household is ready to let go and move on. There are three rooms in a home that makes the sale.  These rooms are more important than the others because they serve an essential purpose in living.  They are the kitchen, the bathroom and the bedroom.  Your potential buyer will need to know that his/her new home will provide him/her with food, relaxation and rest.

KITCHEN

The kitchen has two conflicting elements that need to maintain a very careful balance, fire (from the oven) and water (from the sink).  The kitchen is the heart of the home and it is important to feel comfortable there in order to be inspired.  If you have red walls, balance it with a white countertop or floor.  If you have a blue picture, get a yellow hand towel.  The countertops should be free of clutter, only holding a basket of fruit or a vase of flowers.
Keep the counters free of clutter, pick a wall color that you love, use area rugs for extra leg support and ensure you have lots of light

  • Allow as much natural light in the space as you can.  Overhead lighting is essential to have even if you aren’t going to use it every day
  • Install under-counter halogen lighting to create atmosphere and task lighting
  • If your sink faces a wall, affix a mirror on the wall to create openness
  • Granite, quartz and marble counter-tops in warm colors create a more soulful and cozy feeling than cement and stainless steel countertops.
  •  Install a large wood cutting board as part of the counter-top to add   warmth and practicality
  •  If your kitchen is small, create space vertically.  Hang pots and cooking utensils on wall racks or from the ceiling;
  • Use the top of your fridge for extra store HOWEVER make sure you use attractive containers for your stuff;
  • To instantly update your kitchen, paint the cabinets warm white and add silver-plated cabinet hardware;
  • It’s not best to have a bathroom adjoining the kitchen but if you do, minimize any negative effects by keeping the bathroom door closed.

THE BEDROOM

According to the ancient art of Feng Shui, your bedroom has a significant impact on your health and well being.  It’s vital that you feel cozy and relaxed in the space so you can unwind from daily stress and sleep soundly.

  • Sleep in a room that is quiet and in a quiet area of your home.
  • Connect to nature; A bedroom with windows allowing views of nature or a door leading outside helps you access nature.
  • Paint the bedroom with a warm tone rather than a cool tone unless you live in a hot climate.  Beige, yellow and coral work for most bedrooms.  In hot climates blue, lilac, white and grey tones are preferable to create balance with the climate.
  • It’s best to choose a bed frame with a headboard and footboard so you’ll fee protected.  If your bed doesn’t have a footboard, you can place a bench at the foot of the bed.  If you do not have a headboard the bed should be placed on a solid wall that does not have any plumbing behind it.
  • Place extra pillows on the bed for comfort and a stuffed animal doesn’t hurt either.
  • Place a nightstand on either side of your bed.  They don’t have to match but they should be equal in proportion.  If your room is small, placing one side of the bed 12-18 inches from the wall can replace a nightstand.
