Norristown H.S, involved in an "instant classic" game.

I missed last week's Norristown football game due to mix up with the game time. Anyway, let me get right to it. Norristown is down by 4, with Upper Merion leading 24 -20, and under ten minutes remaining in the game. Both teams exchange possessions as the clock ticks down to under three minutes. At this point, the excitement and a future legend is being born. Norristown sophomore quarterback, Desmond Gorski, taking over for senior captain, Sonny Brewer, starts to move the Eagles on a game winning drive. With clutch throws, one to fellow sophomore wide receiver Derik Cross, Gorski puts Norristown inside the Upper Merion 20. The Norristown sideline and stands are jumping up and down anticipating a big play. A handoff to senior running back, Isiash Carter, a couple broken tackles and a juke move into the end zone and the Eagles take the lead 27-24. The visitors' side is in a frenzy with Norristown seconds away from their first victory of the 2013 campaign. After the team settles down, Norristown kicks off. The kick goes to a diminutive Upper Merion player who jack rabbits his way in and out of oncoming tacklers. The whole stadium is in a wide mouth, heart pumping state. Finally, the Upper Merion player is tackled on the Norristown side of the field. Twenty plus seconds remain in the game. First down. Second down. Nineteen seconds left. Time out. Norristown coaches tell their players to move back. The ball is snapped. Upper Merion's QB scrambles to his right, avoids a tackler and throws a perfect strike to a receiver that got behind the Norristown secondary. The receiver catches the ball around the ten yard line and sprints into the end zone. TOUCHDOWN!! Upper Merion wins. The home crowd rushes the field with the players jumping for joy. The Norristown players, dejected, toss their helmets and grab their heads in disbelief. Twice in less than two minutes I have witnessed the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" go full circle. As I said before, this 2013 Norristown team is loaded with excitement. They have more explosive players than most of the teams that they have played and will be playing. The trick for the Norristown coaching staff is to get all these players on the field at the same time. When this trick is revealed, the Eagles will be very difficult to stop. But one thing that will not stop is the excitement they create.
