Gasper P. Scardino "Gap", 89, of Norristown Died on Thursday

Gasper Scardino was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army.

 

Gasper P. Scardino, "Gap", age 89, of Norristown, formerly Conshohocken and Plymouth Meeting, died on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at .

He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Marie (Bello) Scardino.

Mr. Scardino was born in Norristown on Nov.24, 1922 to the late Francesco and Mary (Tornetta) Scardino.

He was a graduate of Norristown High School class of 1940.

He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army with rank of Private.

He served with Tr. A, 42nd Cav., Ren. Sq. He was employed as a truck driver for Crathamel Trucking of Oaks, PA.

He also was the Union Rep for the Teamsters Union Local #384 and served as Secretary Treasurer until his retirement.

Gap was a member of SS. Cosmas and Damian Church in Conshohocken where he served as an Usher; was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus; and a life member of Andrew Lannutti Legion Post.

He was also a Coach for Conshohocken Little League in the 1950's. Gap was proud of his Italian heritage; was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was a kind and wonderful person to all who knew him.

He is survived by two children Pennie Scardino Sortino of East Norriton, Frank Scardino of Gladwyne, his son-in-law Tony Sortino, four grandchildren Kim Scardino, Karen Scardino Strid, Meredith Scardino, Joseph Sortino, four great-grandchildren Carter Strid, Max Strid, Olivia O'Donnell, Emma Strid, and a special nephew Jim Piazza of Eagleville.

He was pre-deceased by a brother Louis Scardino. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM at SS. Cosmas and Damian Church, 209 W. 5th Ave., Conshohocken.

The Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:30-9:00 PM and Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Emil J. Ciavarelli Family Funeral Homes, 516 Fayette St., Conshohocken.

Interment was in St. Patrick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to Montgomery Hospital, 1301 Powell St. Norristown, PA 19401 are appreciated.
