Salvatore F. Ferraro, 73, of Havertown

Salvatore Ferraro passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, at his home.

Salvatore F. Ferraro, age 73, passed away Wednesday morning, October 31, 2012, at his home in Havertown.

Born April 9, 1939 in Philadelphia, he graduated Overbrook High School, class of 1957. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

In 1960 he married Sarah Marita Gillespie. Together they raised three sons and have lived in Havertown since 1976.

Professionally, he was a Certified Financial Planner. He was with John Hancock for many years. After his retirement from John Hancock, Mr. Ferraro became an Independent Agent.

His greatest joy of his retirement were his grandchildren, they were always Number 1!

A great joke teller, he could work a room with his jokes. During his chemo treatments he would always arrive with jokes and hand them out to the other patients and staff.

He was also involved in his community and politics. In 2000 he was awarded the Man of the Year from Citizens for Good Government.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sarah Marita (nee Gillespie) Ferraro, sons; Joseph (Mary), James (Donna), John (Titi), grandchildren; Nate, Gabe, Allie, Robyn, Brendan, Isabelle, Samantha, Ryan and siblings;Sara Cocco and the late Joseph E. Ferraro. 

Family and friends called from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, in the Funeral Home of John Stretch, 236 E. Eagle Rd, Havertown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, in Annunciation BVM Church, Brookline Blvd, Havertown. Interment will follow in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
