DA Considering Death Penalty for Luckenson Desrivieres

According to The Times Herald, accused murderer Luckenson Desrivieres may be facing the death penalty when he goes to trial for the murders of 23-year-old Marc Winchell Estiverne and 26-year-old Shamara Hill.

The bodies of Estiverne and Hill were discovered in a rooming house on the 1200 block of Arch Street on June 17 of this year. Both victims had been stabbed stabbed numerous times. Desrivieres was quickly linked to the crime and a month-long manhunt ended with is capture nearly a month later. He was found hiding under a box in the basement of a home in Irvington, New Jersey.

The state is reportedly considering asking for the death penalty for the 24-year-old Desrivieres.

"These murders were premeditated, performed with specific intent to kill, and they are charged as much," Assistant District Attorney Samantha Cauffman said, according to the Herald.

Desrivieres is facing charges including two counts of First Degree Murder, two counts of Second Degree Murder, two counts of Third Degree Murder, one count each of Robbery, Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition, Receiving Stolen Property, Possessing Instruments of Crime, and Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence.

The defense is reportedly arguing that the killings were not premeditated and seeking to have the charges brought down to third-degree murder on all counts.
