Police are investigating a home invasion robbery at the Logan Square Apartments in which a suspect stole $35 at knife point from an elderly resident.
Officers responded to the apartment complex in the 400 block of West Logan Street at approximately 5:33 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, for a report of robbery. On the scene, police spoke with the victim, a 73-year-old resident of complex who reported that he was inside his apartment when he heard the buzzer for the lobby door ringing. He initially ignored it, but after it continued to ring, he reportedly left the apartment to investigate and while in the hallway outside of his apartment, spotted the suspect.
The victim stated the suspect was peering through the window of the unlocked interior fire door from the stairwell. The suspect then allegedly burst through the door, advancing on the victim. He allegedly held a knife to the victim's chest as he pushed him through the open doorway of the victim's apartment.
The victim reportedly fell to the ground and told the suspect that his wallet was on a table beside the the front door. The suspect allegedly removed $35 from the wallet and fled the scene from the rear door of the rear stairwell.
Police say the victim was visibly shaken by the encounter and could only describe the suspect as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing all black. Officers reportedly searched the area without results.
