Elderly Norristown Man Robbed at Knife Point in Home Invasion

The suspect accosted the 73-year-old victim in his apartment and took $35.

Police are investigating a home invasion robbery at the Logan Square Apartments in which a suspect stole $35 at knife point from an elderly resident.

Officers responded to the apartment complex in the 400 block of West Logan Street at approximately 5:33 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, for a report of robbery. On the scene, police spoke with the victim, a 73-year-old resident of complex who reported that he was inside his apartment when he heard the buzzer for the lobby door ringing. He initially ignored it, but after it continued to ring, he reportedly left the apartment to investigate and while in the hallway outside of his apartment, spotted the suspect.

The victim stated the suspect was peering through the window of the unlocked interior fire door from the stairwell. The suspect was reportedly wearing a mask or scarf covering his face and only his eyes were visible. The victim told police that the suspect appeared to be watching the apartment directly across from his and when he spotted the victim, the suspect shook his head "no."

The suspect then allegedly burst through the door, advancing on the victim. He allegedly held a knife to the victim's chest as he pushed him through the open doorway of the victim's apartment.

The victim reportedly fell to the ground and told the suspect that his wallet was on a table beside the the front door. The suspect allegedly removed $35 from the wallet and fled the scene from the rear door of the rear stairwell.

Police say the victim was visibly shaken by the encounter and could only describe the suspect as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing all black. Officers reportedly searched the area without results.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Norristown Police Department at 610-270-0977.

This is just pathetic! Really? Robbing an elderly person, who probably lives on social security, and scaring the hell out of him, for $35!!! Try getting a J O B like the rest of us.Again, Norristown is just going down hill. What a shame!

You know what. Norristown SUCKS!!! Coward!!!
OMG December 11, 2012 at 12:00 PM
That's sad and who lives in the apartment across from his that the perp was watching. Ignorant bastard.

I live in this complex and the gentleman who got robbed is the nicest guy ever. Unfortunately we have some shady low life people who live in building mooching off the welfare system. Management on the property consists of a little old lady and a drugged out looking maintenance man. The owners do little to ensure safety of the complex nor are they picky on who they rent to. I will be looking to move after my lease is up. As for the guy who did that, what a loser and a coward. Get a job and quit being typical.

Borough Council better continue to put off hiring a new police chief. Surely there are more important issues like weed and seed, or the Christmas Party. Get off your duffs, borough council. Get to the business of keeping the borough safe.
Sara s December 11, 2012 at 12:37 PM
Do you think outer council cares? Not!
Sally19401 December 11, 2012 at 02:00 PM
We can't make Council care about the citizens but we can certainly let them know the community is outraged about their lack of action in the search for a police chief. Write or call the council members today. Their contact details can be found at norristown.org. Click the selection for Council.

This is terrible, I thought that this was a nice neighborhood. I get my Pizza right around the corner at Via Veneto! I guess no where in Norristown is safe from these leeches that are living here. I agree with Sally and Mohandus- we need to get a police chief search started ASAP. We need someone that is going to bring a comprehensive policing plan to Norristown. Then we need to tell council to get out of the way and let the police do their job. When ever the police try to crack down on these criminals, some on council side overract to complaints from relatives of these criminals! This is not profling, this is cracking down on those that actually commit criminal acts. This is not youth violence, this is adult crime! An elderly person should not have to fear leaving their apartment to answer the door.

That is why I have a license to carry a firearm. I never leave my place without my gun. Norristown is getting worse by the hour.

Oh my word! I thought the north end was safe. I need to move to east norriton. Why are things getting so bad?

Glad I moved out of Norristown over 5 years ago to upstate New York. My quality of life has dramatically improved and I dont need to look over my shoulder constantly like before. Norristown harbors all kinds of degenerates. There are very few decent people left it seems. When I think of Norristown I think of a bunch of misfits, drug users and dealers. AND little Mexico as well. I feel sorry for that elderly man and hope they catch the scumbag who did it.

It is a nice neighborhood; however, there are scumbags everywhere. Criminals are mobile. It's a shame, though, that we have to hide behind locked doors.
Luray December 11, 2012 at 08:48 PM
Agreed. We need more police protection, not less.

TNSTNSTNSTNSTNSTNSTNSTNS figure out what it means Typical Norristown S##! This is what we are expected to live with. If someone busts into my house they'll get a 9mm surprise betwixt their peepers. I'll probably get arrested by police, called a racist and harassed by Council for defending myself.

council is the reason the police cant police

It's worse than Camden, NJ lately. Why don't these perps go to Blue Bell, Plymouth Mtg,Conshy - more affluent spots where they would get more bounty? Oh that's right, those are towns that care about their citizens safety by having a reasonable police force.
Mohandus Frieri December 12, 2012 at 02:15 PM
And Patch published a picture of his building. Maybe they could include a video of how to enter the building surreptitiously and jimmy the lock. Judgement lacking.

I ride though lansdale, pottstown, Conshohocken, and what I don't see is a bunch of nasty Mexican stores on every other dam corner. When is Norristown going to do the same?
