Fire Extinguished at Norristown State Hospital “Suspicious in Nature”

The Norristown Fire Department extinguished a Saturday night fire at the Norristown State Hospital, which Pennsylvania State Troopers are now investigating, according to the Norristown Fire Department Fire Chief.

A fire that was “suspicious in nature” started in one the Norristown State Hospital patient buildings Saturday night in Norristown and was extinguished before 9 p.m., according to Thomas M. O'Donnell, the Norristown Fire Department Fire Chief.

“The Norristown Fire Department responded and brought the fire under control in a few minutes,” said O’Donnell. “There were no injuries that we were aware of.”

There is a Pennsylvania State Police investigation, due to where the fire was located in the building, said O’Donnell. Being that the hospital is on state grounds, it is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police, he said.

The firemen were waiting for the troopers to do an investigation at around 9:20 p.m., according to O’Donnell.
