Five Stolen Hondas Prompt Statement from Police

Police say they have taken reports of five stolen Honda Accords since August 10.

The Norristown Police Department is investigating a rash of vehicle thefts over the past three days.

According to Detective Lieutenant Michael Crescitelli, a total of five Honda Accords have been stolen since August 10. Thieves have been targeting mid-1990's model Accords, and in each case, the owner had possession of the key and no broken glass was found.

Each theft occurred during the overnight hours, Crescitelli said.

The vehicles were stolen from the following locations:

  • 1400 block of Astor Street
  • 800 block of Laura Lane
  • 1200 block of Locust Street
  • Unit block of West Basin Street
  • 400 block of West Marshall Street
Two of the stolen vehicles have been recovered by police – one on the 900 block of Stanbridge Street, and the other in Northeast Philadelphia. Both vehicles were unoccupied at the time they were recovered.

Additionally, two Honda Accords that were reportedly stolen in Philadelphia were recovered by police in Norristown on August 11. The first was recovered at George and Beech streets, and the second was recovered along the 700 block of March Alley. The ignition in both vehicles had been "punched," police said.

Since June 1, there have been 31 reported vehicle thefts in Norristown – a number that Crescitelli says is much higher than usual. Police are asking that residents keep their vehicle doors locked at all times, and keep an eye out for suspicious activity.
