Home Invasion in Blue Bell

Report: Homeowner shot at two suspects

A house in the Belfry section of Whitpain Township was the scene of a home invasion in the early overnight hours of Saturday morning.

Police were looking for two black males wearing dark clothing who broke into a home at about 1 a.m. on the 700 block of Danbury Drive.

Breaking News Network, a service that monitors police radio reports, reported that the homeowner had fired a gun at the intruders and may have struck at least one of them.

Police declined to confirm that the homeowner had shot at the intruders.

"They were scared off by the homeowner," said Sergeant Joseph Fenerty of the Whitpain Township Police department, who said that the suspects had fled the scene.

"We're checking hospitals now," Fenerty said. "They're considered dangerous."

A child's bicycle lay on the front lawn and a newspaper lay in the driveway of the home in a neighborhood near the Blue Bell Country Club.

A white Dodge Durango was placed on a flatbed truck and removed from the scene at about 2:45 a.m.

Police declined to identify the owner of the vehicle or to explain why it was being removed from the scene.

Fenerty said police units including a Montgomery County K-9 unit were searching for the suspects. Vehicles and personnel from the Pennsylvania State Police as well as a PennDOT vehicle were visible at the scene.

It was reported that the suspects fled on foot toward Ritter Road.
