A woman pulled from the Schuylkill river in West Norriton by West Norriton Police and the Jefferson Fire Company on Jan. 17 may have been engaging in a suicide attempt.

According to West Norriton police chief Daly Mabry, police believe that the woman went into the river to attempt suicide.

The woman’s current condition is unknown.

On Jan. 17 West Norriton police received word that there was a body in the water; they traveled to the unit block of East Indian Lane in West Norriton and saw a woman in the river, who was alive.

Police corporal Robert Scotti and officer Joseph Natalini worked with Jefferson Fire Company chief John Bergstasser and the three men entered the water, using a bamboo stick to bring the woman to shore.

The woman was brought to Mercy Suburban hospital.
