UPDATE: Juvenile Arrested in Wednesday Night Shooting Incident Not Charged in Shooting

According to The Times Herald, initial police reports indicating that the juvenile arrested in Wednesday night's shooting incident at DeKalb and Jacoby streets was identified as the shooter were incorrect and the weapon recovered at the scene was likely not involved in the shooting.

Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono told the Herald that the 17-year-old male arrested by the police near the scene, "was not identified as the shooter by a witness. The gun that we found in the vicinity was a revolver but the gun used at the shooting was a semi-automatic weapon."

An incident report made available to Norristown Patch had indicated that the juvenile was, in fact, identified as the shooter. Chief Bono was unavailable for comment at the time the original story was posted and did not comment to the Herald on the nature of the inconsistency.

Chief Bono reportedly told the Herald that the juvenile may have been running from police because he was carrying a gun illegally. He is reportedly being charged with carrying a firearm without a license, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and loitering.

Police are still investigating the incident and the possibility of the juvenile's involvement. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Norristown Police Department at 610-270-0977.

According to reports from the Norristown Police Department, officers were dispatched the area of Jacoby and DeKalb streets shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, for a report of shots fired.

A caller reporting the incident told police dispatch that four shots could be heard and described the suspected shooter as a black male wearing a light green "hoodie" and dark blue jeans. He was last seen running west on Jacoby Street towards Swede Street. While en route to the scene, an officer observed a subject matching that description walking east on the 00 block of Oak Street and radioed in his location. Another officer then attempted a pedestrian stop on the suspect near the CVS at 701 DeKalb Street, at which point the suspect fled south on Willow and turned west onto Appletree Alley.

Officers pursued the suspect and, within minutes, located him lying in a breezeway between homes on the 00 block of Chestnut Street. The suspect was detained and officers retracing his path recovered a revolver at the corner of Willow Street and Appletree Alley. The suspect was identified as a juvenile and his name is being withheld by police.

Officers spoke with a witness at the scene of the shooting who told police that he observed the suspect approach a white vehicle parked at DeKalb and Jacoby streets and after a brief conversation with the driver, open fire on the occupant or occupants of the vehicle. The witness stated that the suspect then fled the scene, still firing shots, and the unidentified white vehicle drove off north on DeKalb Street.

Police say they received no reports of any injured parties and contacted area hospitals to alert them to the incident.

Officers recovered four .380 calibre shell casings from the scene, two of which were found approximately 25 to 30 feet from the intersection where the car was parked. Officers also recovered a set of house keys with a car alarm remote attached, but no vehicle keys. The witness told police that the keys were dropped by the suspect as he fled. The shell casings and keys were placed into evidence.

Charges against the juvenile arrested in the incident were not released by police.
