Suspect in Several Norristown Shootouts Arrested in Philadelphia

Kyree Wells is facing gun-related charges in connection with several shooting incidents in Norristown in December 2012.

A 21-year-old Norristown man wanted by police on receiving stolen property and gun-related charges, was taken into custody on Tuesday by Philadelphia Police.

According to Norristown Police Det. Lt. Michael Crescitelli, Philadelphia officers were conducting a traffic stop on Kyree Wells when a routine check revealed the active warrant. Wells is also reportedly wanted by Montgomery County Adult Probation.

Wells is believed to be involved in several shootings in Norristown in December 2012 and is facing firearm-related charges after police executing a search warrant on his home found guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia, police said. He is currently being transported to Norristown for arraignment.

According to Crescitelli, Wells was one of two men involved in an alleged . That shootout sent a Philadelphia man to Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Wells reportedly told police at the time that he was sitting in a vehicle in the 110 block of West Airy Street on Dec. 21 when he was shot at by the Philadelphia man. He denies having returned fire.

"[Wells] is currently not being charged with the shooting that night," Lt. Crescitelli wrote Norristown Patch in December. "Nor is he a suspect in the homicide [of Paul Brown.]

Brown was killed in Norristown on Christmas night.

Wells also reportedly told police that he was shot at early Wednesday morning in the area of Arch and East Oak streets. According to Lt. Crescitelli, the suspect told police he believed there was a contract on his life relating to the Oct. 20 murder of Ryan Ladson-Singleton. It is still unclear what the nature of the suspect's involvement in that crime might be.
